I realize there is alot of negativity about this subject and that is not something I can change, I am not doing it to personally upset anyone. That is why I attempted (new here, hope I did it right) to post this in the "ear crops" section. to get advice, not to sway or argue opinions. I do believe they give them character, however I am not having his entire ear cut off. I came to this forum to learn more about the breed that I love to much. I have no ill intentions with my dog, he is truly my best friend, and I want to be as knowledgeable as I can when it comes to talking care of him in every way possible.

To the OP... it's your personal choice, and you and your pup will have to live with it. I'm not biased, as I have owned dogs both with natural ears (as I do now) and dogs with cropped ears. Some people will argue the dangers of putting your pup under anesthesia for a cosmetic procedure; however, the risks are just as high to have him neutered. A good vet will run blood work and do an exam to ensure the pup is healthy enough to undergo anesthesia safely, and work quickly and efficiently to ensure they minimize the risk and bring your pup back out quick enough.

Regardless of the price, and the experience of your vet, you should also ask about what's covered, if anything, regarding aftercare like stitch removal (or using dissolving stitches), posting, massaging, etc. If your vet doesn't do these things (mainly posting/taping the ears, and massaging the cartilage), then this will fall on you to do these things, unless you're going to pay extra for each visit for the vet to post and repost, etc. There are stickies on here that cover taping/posting and aftercare, in the event your vet doesn't provide this service, but you need to be sure you're ready to take this on, as you may need to post the ears for several weeks, depending on whether he's gone through the teething stage already, and depending on what style crop you have done.

I'm not sure what advice or opinions you were looking for, but if you have any questions, just let us know.

You're very welcome. That's great that the vet will do all aftercare. The show crop is a nice crop, when done right. I've seen some that were done by not so experienced vets and they ended up looking like a Doberman or Great Dane crop. I once worked for a vet that did a crop on a Great Dane pup, and I kid you not, he literally did the kind of crop appropriate for the APBT/AST! I was disgusted, and thankful that my dogs I had then had been cropped by someone other than him! A really good vet will be able to judge by looking at the pup's head and do a crop that will look too short as a pup, but as they grow and mature, turns out looking great, and often times don't need posting. I experienced this with a female I had. I took her in to have her done, and he looked at the shape of her head, and told me what he thought would look good, and I trusted his judgement, and when I picked her up that evening, her ears were already standing! I only posted them when she went through her first heat cycle, as one started to lean in over her head, but after a 3 day posting, they were fine. And, the incredible thing was, I only paid $75 for the entire procedure, bloodwork and all!

I only offered my opinion.

If you truly care for your dog you wont put them through a painful procedure that does nothing to improve the condition or personality of the animal.
It is a purely cosmetic surgery. The best possible care would be to leave them.. Once again, In my humble opinion.

Since you've chosen to crop, youre doing right finding a reputable vet that has many crops under their belt. Taking good care and time to promote proper healing and then training the ears to sit correctly.
Good luck

As an owner of cropped and natural eared dogs (2 of each) I'd say go with what you like. I agree 100% with lady pit on this one. My vet luckily covered all after care (taping, posting, stitch removal, pain meds, blood work before, and I was in the surgical suite the whole time) for $500 (or so). I do not regret my experience with my vet or ear cropping. I prefer males with cropped ears. My best advice is take plenty of pics of the crop you want your dog to have. I took 20+ pics with me and my vet was more than happy to look at every one, show me crops he's done, and discuss my pups personal look before the procedure.

Since your vet has seasoned experience with this everything should go smooth. I paid $275, that sounds like a lot but you pay for what you get, my vet did a fantastic job on raiders cut. The ears are completely identical and smooth perfect cuts. Imo he's the best in the Deep South area. I was very nervous about the show crop on a bulldog like mine. But with his parents being big dogs that are lean I thought it would look good. Imo bully type dogs only look good with short crops. When raider first got home I was questioning the vets expertise, the crop looked as if it had way too much bell for my liking, and one ear was folded inward. He told me not to worry NOR POST or tape, that with time he will grow into them. Slowly but surely his ears perked up just like the vet said and his big noggin started growing into them and the bell slimmed down, he looked fantastic. Always trust a good vet. (At least from my experience). But, from the looks of it. Red may look a bit on the bully side, so make sure the show crop is what you want.

My dog has a "show crop with little to no bell."

Here's the first day home lol

Now, 2.5 months later.
