Chihuahua ??

So I have never really been around this breed except for my sisters friend who had multiple litters and they were all one huge pack on attack mode. I didn't hang around them just ran through the room to get away from them. When I asked the owner what was up with the attack dogs her answer was, well it doesn't hurt right? Does that matter?!?!

Anyway there was a super sweet one tonight and he shook. Like literally was shaking the entire day/ night I was with him. Begging for treats, shaking, begging for blanket and pats anything and was shaking / shivering the whole time. I thought it was fear or being cold but the owner said these dogs just shake and shiver all the time for no reason. I asked her why you would want a dog that shakes for no reason that's super annoying and she said cause he was super cute (which I guess he was kinda cute if you're into rat face and bug eyes)

So anyway the dog wasn't cold it was burning up! Is the shaking fear based or do they really just shake for no freaking reason?!?! Body language was good not tense, very playful, no tail tucks came when called very nice dog. It just shivered all the time! What the heck?!

Yup they do. My male Chico is the best little dog you could ask for. Good with other animals, good with kids, good with strangers, etc. but he shakes ALL THE TIME. Lol. He's under the covers right now curled up against my legs and he's shivering.

Hahaha tons of freaking reasons! I didn't realize it was a normal thing. YUK!!! Great dog but shivers, can't deal with that. My co worker is a leg tapper. I have to kick his ass at least once an hour when he starts going. Ugh my whole desk shakes!! My man had wrestles leg syndrome sooooo annoying. Thank goodness for
Drugs hahah

There are so many accepted faults within the Chihuahua and other heavily popular over bred breeds that most people believe it just is what it is.

No dog should be shaking for absolutely no reason, nervous system issues, fear aggression, nervous and fear mentalities, low life spans, food allergies, season allergies, environmental reactions etc etc.. All have been heavily bred into those dogs because of popularity..

My grandmother has had them for a good 20 years now a few had issues a few have not, the two now are traditional sized, "standard" Chihuahuas, neither shake all the time and both I would consider healthy mind and body... Don't know about the breeder she got them from as I'm not interested in them but I can tell whoever bred them wasn't breeding for a fad and took care in keeping most of the bullshit out genetically.

No dog breed normally does something that is abnormal. Shaking for no reason is abnormal.

Just a little funny here.... if you've ever seen the movie "Beverly Hills Chihuahua", the answer in the movie as to why they shake, is because of their "inner bark". The story that's told, is that they were once fierce warriors and they have a mighty inner bark that is contained until they absolutely need to express it, and that is why they shake.

Lol ya and aren't all the "chihuahuas" in that movie rescues from the pound? That cracked me up. How can you call it a chihuahua anymore than people can call a shelter dog a pit bull.

I don't know about the background of the dogs... didn't really look into it... was just trying to make light of the question and answers is all. I only watched it because my daughters had the first two movies (I bought them for them) and they insisted on watching them numerous times. I also had Homeward Bound 1 & 2 as a 2 disc set. Sent my girls back to their dad with all 4 movies lol.

totally what I was thinking KM, I was trying to be nice about it when they said every one of them shakes for no reason, I doubted it, there HAD to be a reason, like you stated and MSK linked me and googling made it seem like it was totally fine. crazy dogs I tell ya!

I have one and she drives me nuts with a high pitch bark that can make your ears bleed. The shaking can be excessive energy build up. Some of the soft spots never fully closed Rockstar is 5 you can still feel hers.
