A scary day at the dog park- That showed sweet nature of the breed

I know that many people on this site do not agree with takin pitbulls to the dog park, but I just wanted to share a story about what happened last week when we took Athena to the dog park. Last week we were at the dog park when a medium black dog hurt it's foot and started whining loudly to its owner, within a second, all the dogs in the park surrounded it and started barking at it and nipping it. Then a small female English bulldog( I think it's actually a mix) ran up and started lunging towards its throat. The owner grabbed the bulldog and picked it up. The owner of the black dog that was hurt was very calm and picked her dog up and carried it out of the park. It was fine except for the ankle. The only dogs that did not engage in the pack mentality was a little pitbull puppy mix that ran to her owner, a old English bulldog that was trying to stand over the dog to stop the dogs, and our pitbull puppy Athena who stood a few feet away from the other dogs looking confused. She originally thought the dogs were playing but when she saw they were fighting she kept her distance. My boyfriend walked over and picked up Athena and then tried to help out. The only dogs that did not engage were the pitbulls and pitbull mixes. Who seemed more concerned, but stayed as far away from the conflict as possible.

I doubt it was the dog own choice to stay clear. Pit bull owners who choose to take their dogs to the DP have to e more vigilant and distance themselves from the rest of the patrons. Well done for keep you dog from getting involved.

But you will get heat for taking your dog to the breeding ground of disease and bad manners. It is do able, but not recommended. It's like hanging out with your children around "hookers as sailors", they can be great people but your kid is likely to pick up some unsavory habits.

There is a dog park near me and I have seen this happen plenty of times.... And plenty of times the "pitbulls" and "pitbull mixes" join in the attack and they are the ones who end up hurting the other dogs. A couple months ago this happened and the "lab/pit" (according to the owner) grabbed the little poodle who was running from all the attacking dogs and almost killed it. Poodle had a huge gash on its neck.
Remember your dog and this other pup at the park are PUPPIES....not 2 year old mature adults.
You sound like you know and understand the risks of going to the dog park, and there is nothing we can do to stop you from doing so.
