Exclamation SPCA came knockin on my door...

so i just talked to spca and they say that spring poles promote agression and i tried to explain to them that to him its just a toy and he likes it and it burns alot of energy quickly. and they kept tellin me how if your dog were to run off and he bit someone then he will not let go because of the training we do with the pole. so do spring poles really create more agression?.. i kinda thought it was stupid because i just see it as a toy and wherever i go he's always on a leash. and then i got an order which was written on paper to "cease harsh and inhumane training or discplinary techniques" and they said that if they get another complaint they can come and take my dog away? jeez thats a little harsh

I would definitely research the spring pole and all it's good points and google if it would promote aggression. Then I would print it all out and take it to the SPCA before they can even get a chance to get another call. Also I'd pass it out to your neighbors via mailbox/slot or something because they obviously need to be educated. Good luck.

That would be the best thing to do it sounds to me that the SPCA people that went over there aren't really all that educated about the breed and the difference between DA and HA. Like someone said earlier show them the videos with the turtles.

That's right. Education is key when dealing with Pit Bulls because you need to treat the other person like a 2 year old. Explain it to them in short, well mannered bursts and let them know that you are willing to comply as long as they are willing to listen. If they want you to remove the spring pole, I say do it. Put it up in your house. I would! It will still condition your dog in the proper manner and no one will know about it.

dang! i would definately do what others have suggested!
I am so glad i have Peanuts in my bedroom so no one even knows its here..and i dont go telling people in person that i use one (i tell people i run him and he plays fetch) I will take the busted up ceiling over that anyday even though Peanut's is out of commishion right now til it gets fixed...

what was it that caused SPCA to show up at your door again?

they came to my door because someone was complaining about me hitting my dog while he was playing with the spring pole but i dont hurt him ill give him a smack on the side to encourage him to hang onto the pole. i guess that was just a stupid idea on my part because you can see the pole from my frnt yard. i guess i wont be using the spring pole till i get my fence up. that's gonna be awhile. i've been doing some research on google and WOW i have never seen so much negativity about spring poles from this website dogsbite.com these people HATE pitbulls haha.

This comes from the same theory that tug-O-war promotes aggression and should be discouraged? A springpole is nothing more than an amplified version of tug-o-war. Yes, my dogs loves to play tug-O-Amp-O-war!

My bad. I play tug-O-war with China all the time. I make sure she's got a good grip on the toy and I spin around in a circle so fast that it lifts her up off the ground and we're both spinning. She hangs on til I am either too dizzy to keep going or until I'm out of breath! She's really good at it too lol. Hmm....Promotes aggression? I have a two year old and a four year old that can state otherwise. kthx LOL

ya.. i did that and all they said was "well turtles are slow and they arent like cats where they can just run off because pitbulls have high prey drive and you probably wouldnt do that without supervision" what a bunch of dickheads. they were girls btw haha

well the thing that gets me is..they sell tug of war toys in pet stores and flirt poles for cats...any other breed (or species) its okay but when a "pitbull" plays with the same toys we are training to fight or promoting aggression i just dont understand the logic

Oh boy those spca people really need so education. I would look at this from a legal view and do some lawyer calling and pressing some charges for wrongful conduct, and stupidity.

Playing tug-O-war with your dog is not bad if handled correctly. If they know the give or drop command you can end the game whenever you want, you're top dog what you say goes. There's more to it but I think it's in the training section somewhere.

Can you have your vet write a letter promoting the health benefits of the spring pole, and maybe have the registries that run competitions send you something promoting it as well? That way some dumb spca agent will have no case if a licensed vet, and reputable registry support you.
