DieselDawg will become famous soon enough
It is not your dog that might be the problem. You are going to feel "ill" when your dog submits to an agressive/dominant dog that means business and gets hurt. You are going to wish you listened. A big portion of people who bring thier dogs to the "Dog Park" do so after the dogs have been couped up all day. Instead of actively walking them they bring them to the park and release them. Others bring non-socialized dogs to the park to socialize them...Well, why let your dog be the test dummy? Other people bring dogs that have disease/mange/ect to the park and pass it on. Another bad senario is when people bring small children to the park and do not supervise them properly. Your dog plays with them too hard or knocks them over, ect. and your dog could pay the ultimate price.

Just too many variables at an open Dog Park IMO. Why chance it? Your job is to protect your dog from getting into trouble. You would be much better served to arrange "play dates" with a few (2-3) other dogs that you are familiar with...and you dog is also. Then you have limited the exposure to unknown factors.

I hate to say it but something WILL HAPPEN and it COULD BE BAD!

idk man. kenya does EXCELLENT with meetin new dogs (right now) but i still wont go to a traditional dog park. i have people watched owners and their dogs at the parks, and alot of the time the owners are too busy "chattin" and having a grand ol time that they dont see the clear cut signs of agression at the parks.

I rememeber one time i was watchin this owner with his belguim shepard. the dog was a complete dominating ass hole and was picking fights with ALL the dogs in the pin, big or small. and the owner was eggin on this kind of behavior! idk, i dont necessarily have a problem with the idea of dog parks but i have and issue with the type of lazy owners it attracts.

alot of times its ppl who know NOTHING about their dogs or how to handle an aggressive situation. id personally stay outta the parks thaim but thats just me.

i take my girls hikin alot. and when we get deep enough i normally let kenya off leash for some freedom. and she enjoys that ALOT. i like that kind of quality time vs any other.

Any responsible APBT owner should not be caught dead at a dog park!! PERIOD! Not only are dog parks a place of diseases but bad things happen there. Dog fights happen all the time at dog parks, go ask the nearest vet clinic. Why would you put your dog at risk for that? APBT's are not all DA but if another dog starts a fight with your dog, who is most likely to win?

This thread might do down hill fast and I can tell you by seeing this pop up on forums all the time, there is no changing the minds of avid dog park fans.

Just because your dog has not had any problems doesn't mean it won't happen at some point.
That's like throwing gas on a fire, just because you never got burned before doesn't mean it's a smart thing to do!
USE YOUR BRAINS PEOPLE!
end rant......

Keep in mind, the willingness to fight doesnt come until 9 to 16 months. and up to 24 months old. Its there and you cant avoid it. no pitbull will submit when they need to protect themselves. Its best to not set them up to fail.

If your dog gets into a fight at the dog park you put the entire breed at risk of more bad press even if he does not start the fight, stop being selfish....

dan'sgrizz is an unknown quantity at this point
I take my boys to the dog park... I stand outside the fence and LMFAO at every single person in there!!! The one near me is divided into big dog n small dog dog park. It's sooo funny to watch the small dogs "roll" hehehe. I wouldn't be caught dead inside of one I own pits... They are for me to play with... I'd puke if I saw one if my boys submit to some cur at a dog park.

Your boy will get to a point where he stops submitting and starts dominating. Trust me on that. My girl is great around other dogs too, but I would never, ever take her to a dog park. If you really have the urge to let her play with other dogs, arrange a playdate with a friend or family members dog. You want this to be a highly controlled situation. You want the owner of the other dog to be someone you know, who trusts you and understands about the kind of dog you have. There is a reason that everyone, everything that has knowledge about pits says to avoid the dog park. It isn't just people on this site that say that. I've read it in magazines, seen it on other non forum based websites. If your boy gets in a fight in public, he will get put to sleep.

Nope. Dog Parks are bad news for APBT owners. Who knows what dog has or has not been vaccinated? What dog has worms? Coccidiosis? Parvo?
Then to top it all off, one bad scene with another dog and its a headline in the paper. I can barely get the courage to walk mine down the street because of all the loose dogs.....

I think the question about dog parks is a great thing to keep bring up and reminding people about. I am sure it seems all innocent and fun now but IF/WHEN something happens it could be detrimental on so many levels. I think that as fun as it is now, you should start your dog playing in controlled environments to avoid any potential disasters.

You don't want to be the guy who brought the "vicious" animal into the dog park when it is all said and done. Don't risk losing your companion, Thaim. It's fun now, but like everyone else has stated, that won't last forever. My pup has playdates all the time and it lets him have fun with other dogs and gives me peace of mind.

Staffydad I agree that play dates are a great idea. Just because they are an APBT doesn't mean they can't play with other dogs but it should be in a controlled environment with people you know. I have dogs that can play with my fiends dogs and I have some that I would never trust off leash. It just depends and I am happy to see most people agree dogs parks are bad for any dog but especially APBT's.

Very bad idea. Pitbulls generally show some level of dog aggression at one time or another. Hundreds of generations of breeding doesn't dissappear. It can be repressed somewhat but it always there and normal dog social behavior can trigger it at any time. They also are especially unpredictable in dog social situations because they don't respond normally to certain submission signals as do other dogs. Most dogs when asserting dominance will back off after another dog becomes submissive, but due to the long fight breeding history a typical pit bull will continue to fight even when another dog takes a submissive posture. The sumission recognition response has been bred out of most pitbulls.

I always say if you want a dog to have doggie friends, doggie play dates or one you can take to a dog park, a pitbull is probably not the dog for you. If you want the best family / people dog in the world then you can't beat a pitbull. They really are people loving, loyal, affectionate, and best kept in a one dog family. I think pitbull owners owe it to the breed to be extra careful and responsible to ensure their dog is never in a situation where the dog can be unfairly blamed for doing what he has been bred to do. When you own a pitbull, no matter what another dog or dog owner does, you dog will end up being blamed if something bad happens. Avoid the potential situations as much as possible. Your dog will not be unhappy if he does not play with other dogs. He really just wants your attention.
