Question any one have a good idea...

my pitt breaks every thing that i have put him on. i dont have a fence, which sucks but i rent. hes broken every runner and i mean by breaking the lag bolts flush with the trees. i have had to use a pad lock on his collar because hes gotten every other kind of latch undone including a threaded D ring. hes broken all collars including a choke collar that i put him on long enough to get to the store to buy anther collar. i bought a heavy chain and made one for him. i tried harnesses but he breaks the D ring on those also. HELP! any ideas?

You might consider building a kennel or a dog run.

I would stay away from the heavy chains, those are an embedded collar waiting to happen and those are not pretty!

Look at game time dog supply, check out the link below
Collars & Muzzles

Look at the Nylon 1" or 1.5" collars, you can also try the 1.5" padded collars. Then scroll down and look at the collar to chain set ups. You can get a nice chain to use as a tie out that is strong but not too heavy. I would not worry about an embedded collar as mentioned above I am sure you are responsible enough not to leave a small collar on a growing dog. Channing an APBT is fine if done right. Make sure that the dog cannot jump a fence and hang themselves while on the chain. This is a safe and effective what to keep you APBT safe and in your yard. Dog runs are OK but dogs can easily jump out or go through the chain link.
If your dog is breaking slip chains you need to get a good collar like I mentioned above and if you want to fix pulling go to a trainer. If not just make sure you have the proper equipment. Good luck.

i would try getting a better collar like has been said. i would shot for 1 1/2 inch since the dog is breaking others. make sure it is a heavy duty collar and also that the piece where your hooking something to is not just stitched to the collar but has the collar running though it. for a tie out look at your local hardware store. they have weight rated hooks and chain. it's not always the bigger hook or chain that will withstand the most weight so make sure you look at them closely. since you rent an idea i have for a tethering pint is this...dig a good deep whole, place a good strong metal tie up into the middle and fill with concrete only till about three to four inches from the top (make sure the top of the tie up is above the ground). let it dry and if your yard is grass place some good soil over the top and reseed that area, if is dirt just through some dirt over it. hope that makes as much sense as it did in my head

Also a good treadmill for running him for an hour at top speed to help expend his energy would help too.

thanks for all the ideas and help. i did buy a strong collar, it was a harley style real thick theather the whole nine yards. it even said that it had a "lifetime warranty" but i could never get it replaced. i spent a ton on it and it work for a little less than a year. he finally broke the rivets. i made a tie out at work, i just installed yesterday. its all steel with a spinning collar so the chain doenst wrap and break and i also added a heavy spring to keep tension of the chain. the chain collar i made for him is only till i can find something better. i do run him as much as possible to tire him out, but thats not helping. but i really do thank you guys for helping. ill check out the links

a lot of behavior comes from the lack of exercise, i thought that this was a good piece of advice.

I did not read all the posts, so forgive me if I repeat some of the suggestions.
Get nylon double-ply or triple-ply bulldog collar . They are sold at many ADBA shows, and are available online(bryants, newmans, barretts, pitbull stuff, ect. Do not get one from a pet store, it is not the same thing. Do not use leather as it stretches/splits. Put it on tight, so one finger barely fits through, check it every day so it is not wearing on skin.
Go to the "do it yourself" section on this forum, and follow the plan for a proper chain setup.
If you do all this, your dog will not get loose, unless you are doing it wrong.
Also, remember that other animals can STILL get to your dog, and whether you want to beleive it or not, "IF YOUR DOG KILLS OR INJURES A PET THAT COME INTO IT'S CHAIN SPCAE, YOU WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE". That is why you still need a exterior fence around your yard. If you can not afford one, then maybe you cannot afford a dog.

Have you tried teaching him not to break or chew on his things? Does he have toys while he's chained up or in a run? Also, like others mentioned, exercise is key too. Sometimes it takes alot for these dogs to get tired, 30 minutes or a hour or more of play/run/working/walking will do the trick.

Maybe he's bored and needs a playmate. Not suggesting you get another dog unless you can handle it. Try going to a "pit friendly" dog park or have some of your friends come over with their dogs if your dog doesn't have any DA.

i second the execise suggestion...a tired dog isnt going to have the energy to break out of stuff..or destroy anything..that is what we do here and so far nothing broken or destroyed

First off APBT's do not belong in a dog park no matter how "friendly" they are.
All you need is a good set up but you need to buy a collar like in the link I posted for you ASAP. The chain collar you made is no good and your dog could twist it and choke. Like howardsperformancek9 said if you follow the directions on how to keep your APBT confined by the links provided you will not have an issue. Exercise is going to be a must but it's not going to keep him from breaking inadequate chains and collars. Don't get fancy with the set up stick with what has been proven to work for the APBT for years.

just checked out the links and found a good collar, thanks. as far as the collar to chain set up mine is what they have. like said earlier hes gotten off the "D" ring and does this by rolling on his back all night and getting off, wish i had it on tape. hence the reason for the pad lock. also the first 1750 # rated swivel i bought he snapped the ring off. now its a 3000 # rated swivel. thanks for all the help

I hate to hear about someone that keeps ther dog chained. Personally if you do not have a home with a fenced yard, or a place where the dog can live and stay indoors with you than you probably should not own a dog. I lived on a sailboat with a pitbull for 11 years. She did not have to be chained she only needed to be trained. I just can't think of one good reason to chain up a dog, and I can think of a hundred reasons not to. Sorry
