He doesn't look skinny at all in that pic! Make sure you aren't over feeding.

He looks good in that picture, definitely no need to add extra weight.

Alright I was just concerned about his ribs showing because I live in minnesota and it gets very cold out during the end of fall and the winter. I just wanted to put a lil meat on his bones and plus he is just starting to get a little muscle from being exercised regularly instead of being in a kennel 12 hours a day. I looked up how much i should feed him and all that.

He doesn't look skinny at all to me. A couple ribs showing is fine my dog's ribs always show a little unless I've been getting lazy with working him. I bought a flirtpole already made but it's basically just a lunge whip with a bit of scrap leather tied to the end.

OMG...he is adorable. I dont feel like you need to fix that overbite. As long as he can eat and play, he just fine the way he is.

a flrt pole is just like a sturdy cat toy. I went and got a PVC pipe cut at Home Depot and fit a chain through with a nut holding it at the end and a mountain clip. Mine is way to heavy and I need a new one lol My boy wins more than he should lol But its great from training. He is a great dropper now

My flirt pole is a 5' piece of PVC pipe with a rope through it. I tied big knots at each end so the rope wouldn't slide through, and then a toy onto each end so it's double sided. I get a work out along with the dogs!

The back ribs should show a bit. Even in central CA, where it rarely gets below freezing, my blockheads need sweaters or a jacket. They just don't have much fur for insulation.

Thanks I'm picking up the supplies today. i also have him doing alot of fetch on acceptable chewing to strengthen his jaw and its helping alot when we are playing tug o war he doesnt bite on accident anymore. How much should i be feeding him i give hime a small bowl of dog food three times a day maybe a lil extra if we exercised alot that day. He is a natural athlete now that he has someone to spend time teaching him and its awesome watching him come into his own he lived with an older borther who never let him play or chew on his toys so now he is gaining some muscle which is wat i wanted. Not for looks but to help keep him warm in the winter. its nice to find a place where you can ask other pit owners for advice because although I've owned and trained dogs my entire life he is different from the other breeds I've owned but in a good way. so thanks again everyone for all the advice

My 13 month old, 65# (pit / something big mix) gets 3 1/2 cups of food a day. She's still growing, although not as quickly as when she was bitty.
My other dogs - 3 (staffordshire mix) and 2 1/2 (lab / shepherd mix) both about 60# - get 3 cups of food per day.

I feed Taste of the Wild twice a day, and that amount of food gives the pup enough to keep growing on, and keeps the others in good condition. The feed bag itself will give you some idea about the amount of food to give. Eyeballing the dog's ribs will give you a good indication of whether you need to go up or down from what the feed bag recommends. The ribs shouldn't be sticking out with no meat on them at all, but they should be visible. On a longer-haired dog, you go more by feel -- you should clearly be able to feel the last few ribs. Pitties are so short-haired it's easy to tell just by looking.

Be prepared for people to keep telling you you need to feel your dog more, by the way. We've gotten so used to seeing obese pets in this country that one in good shape doesn't look normal.
