TeamCourter, Anthony says the exact same thing to me. Apparently I'm a little too obsessed with my dogs... lol. I've been back in university taking online courses for the last 6 months, so I've been home with the dogs pretty much 24/7. It's been great, but now I'm back to work. My dogs have no problem being crated or whatever while I'm gone now, so I don't think it was a problem at all to be with them so much for the last little while. As long as your dogs aren't becoming anxious when you're away, I don't see an issue with spending all your free time with them! To be quite honest, I prefer the company of my dogs over most humans anyway!

Don't feel bad, my husband probably thinks I'm obsessed too lol. My dogs are like my best friends, and I don't mind admitting it lol. There is nothing else on earth I can spend ALL my time with and still enjoy it! Totally feel ya on the dogs over people! I developed ptsd when I was younger because of humans, and I might not of ever left the house again if it wasn't for dogs

I struggle with anxiety, especially social anxiety. I panic in big crowds, loud noises, lots of drunk people. I'd much rather be on the couch watching a movie painting my nails with my dog next to me. ANY and EVERY day!

Ditto!! I feel ya. I'm the exact same way. Introvert to the extreme.

As others have said, provided a dog doesn't have separation anxiety issues and can be comfortably left alone when the need arises...I don't think there is such a thing as spending too much time with your dog(s) or an issue with not making them independent enough.

Some people (such as myself) have a dog because they want to spend time with it. Spending time with the dog is the whole purpose/reason for having the dog in the first place.

If someone suggested I spent too much time with my dog...that would be like my getting a cheesecake and someone suggesting I not eat it.

All of these stories about people calling the police for dogs that are just fine in their car is making me kind of nervous about bringing my pooches along for a road trip next spring! I'm planning a dog-friendly trip, but the fuzzy things will have to be left in the truck at some point.

I don't think it would cause any problems as long as there's no seperation anxiety issues.

Charlie is an "outside dog" but we had that strange immediate bond when I first got him (still do of course), literally my neighbor gave him to me because I was helping care for him at the time and he had bonded so strongly with me by 9 months of age that my neighbor just gave him to me (that and Charlie would climb, dig, and do what ever it took to get to my yard. He also only listened to me). So he's by my side constantly, I don't see a thing wrong with it.
