take the pup with me or leave her with my parents?

While it hasn't happened yet..I am just kinda thinking ahead...I just graduated college in May and have been looking for jobs..I have been getting more leads on jobs that would require me to move. Obviously I can pass on jobs that would require me to move..but it is hard to pass up an offer at this time... Since I am fresh out of college I would likely only have a studio apartment or a couple bedroom apartment at best depending on where I end up going.

The issue comes up with my 6 month old pup...right now I am living with my parents and obviously she is living here too. We have a fenced in backyard and 10 year old pit-mix. Not a huge fenced in backyard but big enough for her to run around on her own if she wants. My parents love her so it would be no issue with her staying here if she had to..but it would just be hard to let go of her myself.

However I want whats best for her...I just have a feeling she would be happier here with my parents and my other dog with a fenced in yard to play in rather than living in a small apartment 9 hours a day while I am at work. Then her only time to go outside would potentially be two long walks a day. However I know she would get more exposure to the outside world with me. I love going out for walks and taking her places with me that I can..my parents would probably only really walk her once a week or so..but again she would have a fenced in yard to play in.

This could end up being a meaningless topic...but just kinda thinking ahead with a what if scenario...ahh idk haha

leave the pup with your parents if they want her or place her with another family. No offense but this is why I do not adopt or sell dogs to college student because this more time than not ends up happening.

Enjoy your life with out the responsibility of another life, then when you get settled in a few years and have a career and a home with a yard or more time to dedicate to pet ownership get another dog. It is a win win situations for all and you can always visit the pup at your parents house when you need a puppy fix!

At first I would say take her, but performance makes a good point. I would leave her with your parents in a stable home. Many things can happen over the next few years for you, that may not include a dog. I would let her stay where she is and where you know she will be well cared for.

i agree. the pup should stay with your parents imo. shes in a stable environment right now with a friend and a place to run, i think itd be selfish to keep her cooped up in an apartment for the majority of the day. if you want the companionship of a dog, get a smaller dog that does well in apartments (i have the World's Best Chihuahua who did wonderful while i lived in an apartment for 2 years...she also is nothing like a Chi personality wise...haha). Good Luck and I hope you make the best decision for you and your pup.

I think two long walks would be better for her than staying in a fenced in yard w/ another dog.

Just b/c the yard is available doesn't mean the dog will use it if no one is out there playing with her. Plus, it's really not smart to leave a pit unsupervised all day w/ another dog.

I guess maybe just wait and see what happens and do what is best at that time.

If it does happen that you have to move and you need something cheap, maybe you could look into a trailer. They're cheaper than houses, and you would have more options w/ the yard. Mortgage payments on a trailor are usually cheaprer than monthly rent on an apartment. When you get your career straightened out and are ready to move, you'll probably have the trailer paid off or at least close, and you can then look into a house. Plus, you'll own the trailer and be able to rent it out.

Trailers have horrible re-sale values and theyre SUPER had to sell. My aunt and uncle had such a hard time trying to sell theirs, it took YEARS to sell it...FYI.

If you just rent it out, though, it will be income for years.
