e collar when to remove

So my pit border collie mix was in her outdoor kennel somehow she ripped her stitches out and we had to take her to the ec vet to get stitched back up luckily free of charge because it was 369.00 way overpriced they put a belly bandage on her which can be remove tomorrow and an e collar and in 7 to 10 days we have to remove stitches, is it ok to remove stitches myself when she is healed I removed them from my other dog and she's more comfortable with me then the vets and when do I take her e collar off it's annoying because the leash always bends it and makes it impossible to use the leash with it on her neck I was going to take it off Wednesday because I don't think she was licking it but tore it while running outside. She is on pain med and antibiotics right now

These are things that you should be asking the vet about.

Well I didn't talk to the vet, the vet was in the back I wasn't allowed to go back there, she was busy working on another emergency case and couldn't come out to talk to me. It was the emergency vet

Well why don't you give them a call now and ask? It's best to speak to a professional about matters such as removing sutures.

Even if you can't talk to the vet directly, the receptionist or a vet tech can go ask and get back to you. Didn't you receive paperwork explaining her after care? After any procedure, at any vet I've used, I've gotten a list of meds to give, bandage changes, follow up appointments, whether or not the dog needs to be kept still... Sometimes that's printed on the invoice itself.

I, personally, would leave the e collar on at least until the stitches are out. Longer if it looks like she's licking at the wound.

Agreed. Leave it on until you speak to the vet and get an answer from them. I also always get an aftercare sheet. It seems strange to me that you didn't.

Leave the E collar on until the stitches are ready to come out.

If she leaves it on that long I will it's starting to tear already she never licked it before it ripped open from her running around so much. I feel so bad because she is in we crate 24/7 now cz if I let her out she gets to hyper and I don't want them to pull it's gonna suck having to leave her in her small crate for 7 days

I hear ya on crating them. It sucks.
Bizmark had to be crated for 8 weeks to make sure his armpit area healed. I thought we both were going to go crazy.

I'm going to take her e collar off tomorrow and put a head halter on her and take her for a short walk she does good and stays calm during a walk. Then put the e collar back on when I crate her again.

Sounds like a good idea! Short walk though so she doesn't hurt anything inside
