Aggressive dog next door...

Hello, everyone. I joined this forum hoping to get a few answers. I have a 7 month old Shar Pei. She's very, very sweet. She loves all people and animals, so I think I have socialized her well. My neighbor has a 3 year old pit. When I took my dog to their house to see if we could maybe socialise them, he attacked her. If she didn't have such loose wrinkles, I'm sure he would have hurt her pretty badly, but she's fine. I don't blame his breed or anything, I'm just wondering why he seems to dislike her so much.

She didn't act aggressively towards him, or even bark back at him when he was barking. We're friends with our neighbor, so this is kind of a problem.

Well, my neighbor says he's never jumped on another dog like that before which is why he thought it would be fine for me to bring Fuu over. Could it be that he was being protective of his owner or just scared of her? I'm not Cesar Milan, so I have no idea what went wrong. Lol Should I try socializing again, or just avoid contact altogether?

Bull breed dogs including Shar Pei's are typically aggressive to other dogs and no amount of training will make it go away. It is genetic, just like labs retrieve, herding dogs herd, etc. This can be managed though with training.
My dogs were socialized very well and yet they are still aggressive to other dogs. I would not continue to have play dates with this dog. You could however go for walks together. Your pup might also eventually become dog aggressive as well when she is mature, or she might forever love dogs. I had a Shar pei as a kid and he was extremely aggressive to other dogs just like other bull breeds (pit bulls, American Staffordshire terriers, American bull dogs, etc.) so it's a good idea to prepare yourself just in case.

Welcome to the forum and we would love to see pictures of your pup! I'm sure she is adorable!

I see, thanks for the information! Luckily, his dog is on a runner and mine is an inside dog, so they won't have any contact unless they're brought together. I think what happened yesterday scared her so bad she'll never go back to the neighbor's house, no matter what. Haha
Hmm, I could put a picture or two of her here. Just for reference, of course!

Cute dog. It may be a territorial thing. Heard you should have dogs first meetings on neutral territory, like outside but not in eithers yard.
