Crooked nail

Has any one ever had problems with a crooked nail? After our hike Kai started to use his back left leg less and less and now he is limping. When I examine his leg he doesn't cry or resist but I have caught him biting his nails on that leg. When I looked at it one is slightly crooked. I've never had this issue and I'm just wondering if I am being a paranoid owner. Lol not sure if it's something to rush him to the vet for.

Crooked nail

Piggy has one crooked nail on each front paw. I haven't had any issues so far but I do try to keep them nice and neatly cut. Do you trim them often? I know they can get sore if they're too long.

Here is a photo. Sorry, I rotated it but it still uploaded this way. :/

I took him to the vet because his limping got worse after I made this thread. The vet agreed his nail was odd but he was more concerned about his knee on his limping leg which he found swollen. They took hip, paw and knee X-rays. I am waiting for the results. I'm hoping it's nothing serious. For now he is on anti inflammatory medicine and restricted activity. I had to carry him up the stairs so I don't think restricting his activities will be difficult. .

Yes he gets them buffered every week or two weeks depending on the growth but his quick is very long. It looks very long but it's all mostly quick and no nail. Every time I get them done I ask them to buffer it down to the quick but it hasn't helped.

Mels is like that, one of his back ones and a front one I would take a picture but I am at work. Its never bothered him, but its always been crooked. Did you just notice it? Nothing between the pads? like a small piece of glass or anything? Sorry Kai is limping that is no fun!

Thanks Ames! Today the vet called and said the X-rays show his toe and that nail are infected and swollen. I was given antibiotics to avoid infection. His nail always seems to grow slightly crooked but it seemed worse after the hike. I'm thinking the swelling might have had something to do with it. I'm also thinking he stubbed his toe while hiking. The vet checked and found nothing in between his paws. I'm keeping an eye on him. Hopefully it's nothing too crazy.
