I'm on the fence with this one. I use some of "his" methods, but i have been using them before he became a public figure. Not everyone is a Cesar, so i don't reccomend people doing as he shows especially with the breed that we choose to own.

i think his general idea is great, the whole exercise, disipline, affection thing. But each person is different aswell as each dog. Their is alot more to his methods than just what we see, which is the miss leading part of the show. You just see the correction that fixed the action. What about the other 50 attempts and hours spent.

He himself has even been bitin on tv. You use what works for ya, to each his own. I think if ppl put their own spin on exercise, disipline or training (disipline sounds like your punishing your dog, not earning their respect) and affection, alot of owners would be better off.

Im sittin on the fence with indigo

Great post. If you can use it with your own little spin on a technique so it works for you. All the better for you and your dog.

The thing about Ceaser is you have to be the right kind of person to use his methods. Alot of the pack things he does can't be done or maintained by the average person. They are not always good methods for beginners. A large majority of people believe that because they saw Ceaser do it they can do it and thats just not how life works.

Good post. there's so much behind the scenes that animal planet won't show us. It's better to leave problem cases to professionals. Establishing alpha roles may be simple for one dog, but may become dangerous with more problematic dogs.

I don't agree with him holding a dog down while other dogs crowd around it to help it with DA issues and neither do many trainers.

I think if youve got enough experience under your belt with DA dogs, that it is an effective method. The chance of the aggression being directed at a human is slim to none, but it can happen that's why it has to be someone who has worked with these type dogs.

I don't think that that particular method should be glorified, because people everywhere want to try things from TV at home, and that can add up to a dangerous situation. However, I think that keeping a dog in check as far as what is and what is not allowed is a good way to curb a behavior.

The truth is, wether or not his methods work fully, there's more time invested in them then what the show offers the public, and I think that most dog owners wouldn't have the patience to be as consistent as what's needed.

When Chino gets out of line, he gets pinned to the ground. I don't ever let anyone but myself and Jaime do it, but that's because Ive been working with the same pup day in day out, week after week.

Most people who think they can take on those methods don't have the knowledge or passion that cesar has for dogs.

I guess that depends if you are from the negative reinforcement or the positive reinforcement school of thought on training.
All of my books on dog training are positive reinforcement. I just need to read them.

I use both positive reinforcement, and reinforce the good behavior adamently.. However, I use negative reinforcement on unwanted behaviors. I don't think anyone should try and break a dogs spirits, but for such a strongheaded dog as bully breeds are, I think the owner/handler should be more assertive in establishing what is right and what is wrong

I am sick of him! everyone compare all trainers to him now and I could puke every time someone says his name. While he is a good behaviorist many trainers do what he does everyday. He just was lucky enough to get a TV show. I also would never let another dog attack another dog just to get in a correction. That is what muzzles are for while training.

There is a show where he has a black GSD that is going after a cat. Well he is training the GSD not to go after the cat and when the dog goes after the cat he goes and pokes it in the side and the dog jumps. You know how he corrects. Well to the trained eye Cesar had his hand behind his back with a remote control E collar. If you pause the show you can see a black collar that blends in with the dog. This is why I do not like his show. He is deceitful on what it takes to make corrections or fix a problem. People think all it took was a poke in the side to get the GSD not to look at the cat. While I might have used an e collar too he just made it look like it was all him and hide the collar.

More power to him because he was the smart one to get a tv show but I think it is dangerous when people try to copy what they see on tv.
