Dog Napping

... and not the good kind, seems to be on the rise. i don't quite understand it since there are so many available though shelters. but these scum of the earth are getting brave. i think they should be delt with like horse thieves in Texas.
i take precautions of course. but would love to hear any advice on ways to keep our pups safe.

I personally think that people steal dogs because they see something you have that they want. And without bothering to ask for it, they just take it. Which isn't right. In my area thugs steal dogs thinking that they can train their mutts to fight. My uncle had one of his pit mutts stolen last year by someone who forgot that he was a constable... Needless to say my Uncle found his dog and got it back.

The number one thing I do to prevent theft is to never leave my dogs unsupervised in our yard. Mine are also microchipped and my female is tattooed. They have tags with my number and my vet's number on them.

I have to say that theft is very unlikely in this town. Everyone knows each other, especially people with dogs, and mine are very different looking than the usual lab/hound/collies most people have here, so I can almost guarantee that they'd be instantly recognized.

i guess it comes down to being aware and proactive.
i read the other day about some people dressing up as animal control and intimidating pet owners into surrendering their dogs. that's pretty bold.

I'm sorry but if AC came to my house with some BS about taking my animals I would be asking for proof or identification that proves them to be AC. Also if they provide said proof and I still have a stinky feeling about it i'd call the police. My bulldogs are all chipped. Even my little mutt is chipped. Also I am working on getting a 6 ft privacy fence put up as well as security cameras on all dog spots. Go on, try it. I'll see them in court.

Our blue nose got stolen several yrs ago it broke my heart. it was bright early In the morning when every body was asleep, our dog stayed outdoor at that time but he was very well trained and alert, we had good fences too. later that day we learned our neighbor who just bought a beautiful female blue nose with paper had his dog stolen too. people just don't have heart.
