I adopted a 1 year old male pitbull from our local animal shelter last month. On Halloween.
I've always had such a soft spot for the breed and he is my first one. His name is Bert. He is super sweet and loves my 3 year old hound mix Izzy. She's pretty happy with him but let's him know when she's had enough of his roughhousing. Typical sibling behavior I guess.
We've really had no big problems with Bert. He loves to lick your face and sniff you all over and he tried to steal my Mom's glasses off her face. Scared me a little! He's is tough to walk on a leash and does jump on people when they come over. We've been working on those behaviors so I'm sure he be a well mannered young boy soon.
I guess I am struggling a little with the emotional side of things. Thinking my other dog Izzy is mad at me or jealous, even tho they seems so happy when they are snuggling or playing. I do feel a little hurt by people's comments of me being crazy to adopt a pitbull. "He's gonna turn or snap or bite someday." I feel confident in my decision, but their comments do stress me out and then start to make me worried.
Maybe this is just the normal adjustment period after adopting a new furry family member. I need to just relax and enjoy my new boy. I'm sure in a few months I'll feel comfortable.
Anyone ever feel this way?
Thanks for reading my rambling post!
