Lightbulb A lesson for all

I get alot of questions as of where Tai has been and why she left my home to be bred and raise pups. I would like to share the full story now because it is a lesson to all.

Last year I recieved a message from a supposed friend asking me if I wanted a dog that she had. I agreed. A day later I got another message asking me if I wanted two more. She was thinning out her yard and changing lines. I said sure. These dogs were Tai, Chester, and Houdini. I drove to Tennesse to pick up these dogs and after I arrived could not turn them down if I wanted to. She had 10 dogs on a quarter arcer total including her home. They were filthy and conditions were definetly out of hand. I could tell she had gotten in over her head. She told me that she was waiting for the papers to come back from the adba and that I would get them when they arrived. I waited and waited never saw the papers. She stopped returning phone calls and emails. I hunted down their previous owner at this time. Needless to say he was highly upset because she gave away dogs that did not belong to her. He gave me two opitions. One return the dogs in which I have been caring for for sometime or agree to a breeding with Tai. Being very unhappy and unsure I took the deal for I had fell i love with the three wonderful dogs that had come to my home and I sure didnt want to be known as a theif in the dog world. He then sent me the papers for Tai and Houdini but not for Chester. When Tai went into heat I kept my end of the deal. I drove her to his house and dropped her off to be bred. She was staying with him and from all that I had heard everything was going good even though I never saw her the 3 months he had her and I never recieved photos. And only got to speak with him maybe 5 times after nurmous phone calls and messages. There was always an excuse as to why he couldnt talk. One of the times I got to talk to him he said he was going out of town and asked me if I could come get her and delliever the pups. Of coarse. Then he changed his mind and said she would be staying. He left her at his kennel partners house who had no experience in raising puppies. I did not find this out until after I got her back. He made it back in town the day the pups dropped. He told me she had 5 which was a lie she actually had 6 but one died the first day. With in a week she lost 3 more. Leaving two males. She nursed and took care of two pups. When I got her back she weighed maybe 15lbs and looked very very poor. It took everything I had in me not to completely go off and keep myself out of jail. When I picked up Tai I recieved the registration for Chester. I have been nursing her back to health since she has been back and she has not left myside. I have documented everything from the time she left the house and since she has been back. When I got her back not only was she very very skinny but she was still producing milk. They did not even wene the pups they just took them right off her and gave her to me. So everytime I fed her it went to milk. I finallly ended up having to reduce her food intake even though it was not the best thing for her for 3 days. I wrapped her tight and kept her by myside. After three days she finally started to dry up. I eased her back on her food and kept her wrapped. The pictures on my welcome home tai thread or my results of all the work, time, love, and food ive put into her since she has been back.

I wanted to share my story with everyone for several reasons. One (my first mistake) Never recieve a dog from someone friend or not with out papers in hand. Two never send your dog off for someone else to raise the pups even if it could result in trouble. You might not see your dog again. and thrid I do not want anyone else to ever have to go through what my dog and my family has went through and I am glad to share my story with all as a lesson to be learned for everybody. I will not show the pictures and condition she was in when she arrived back with me its not something that needs to be public but I do have them and they will be seen by those that need to see them and I will be taking action on this. There is abosoultey no reason why a dog that left here all muscle well maintained and healthy should come back weighing 15lbs no muscle and only nursing 2 pups for 4 weeks.

I will find Justice and I will do my part to educate everyone I can. Even though I have to admit my fault and stupidity in the matter which is hard for any owner of this breed I am doing so in hopes that my story will make a difference.

Thanks to everyone who has gave us support through the whole thing.

I am glad she is home now Laura and I am also glad you posted this. Its been hard for me to post my mistakes before, but when people can learn from it and save themselves the trouble it is well worth it.

Can't wait to see Tai fully back to herself and on the track!

What a sad story! I am so happy you guys got Tai back, she must have been so happy to be back home. It really shows the heart and spirit of the APBT, many lesser dogs would have succumbed under those conditions, but Tai will be her old self in no time.

that is a distressing and disturbing chain of events.. as if one thing wasn't bad enough it just kept getting worse.
i hope you are able to share this story with anybody who will listen, it is a good reminder that while you think things are kosher they very well may not be.
i hope you are taking legal action (it sounds like you might be already). these acts should not go unpunished.
She looks good in her new pics, although nothing like the other dogs you have had in your full time care, obviously. but for her ordeal, wow, that is some good TLC and just plain lovin!! i know she will be back to what she should be in no time with your oversight!!

just a question.... have you heard anything about the two surviving pups??

I did not get to keep either one of the pups. Im not sure how they will turn out. They looked healthy when I saw them. One went to the guy I did the breeding with and one went to his kennel parnter. I wish I could tell you more but I can't thats all I know about them.

poor puppies. i'm just glad that tai is back and is now making a full recovery. i'm also just glad that she didn't die, the way it sounds she probably could have if you wouldn't have went and got her.

we want to see more pictures! she's a great dog!
