Dog park

I always bring my 1.5 year old APBT to the same dog park and he plays fine with all dogs. He even has a few friends there haha. But yesterday there happen to be 2 bully breed mixed dogs and for some reason they kept trying to target him. One dog even tried to start a fight with my dog. No aggression was displayed by my dog untill the dog attacked him. He is not neutered. My dog has never shown any aggression towards humans or dogs. Should i be discourage to bring him to the park?

I dont want these bad experiences to affect my dog. Can it lead him to become aggressive? He is great with ALL dogs. He wouldnt hurt a fly.

Yes, you should not bring him to the dog park. Bull breeds have a genetic tendency towards dog aggression. Most will display some varying level of dog selectiveness or aggression. Even if your doesn't now (he's still young), one bad experience could set your training back a lot and/or cause it. Not to mention that your dog will likely be blamed in an altercation simply because of how he looks.

There are way safer ways to socialize than dog parks, and that goes for any breed.

you know, the same thing happened to Opie a few weeks back...there was another bully at the park we've never seen before and Opie went to go play with him and that dog attacked him. It took a while for Opie to recover from the attack emotionally....and it actually took a while for the girl to come get her dog off mine, her boyfriend or whatever who was right next to me just tried to wave a stupid ball infront of him and didn't try to get him off.

anyways, it's been a few weeks now, and it kind of seems like he doesn't play as aggressive with our puppy anymore. i don't know if it's because of the attack or not though.

but Opie's never had any problems with dogs, he actually get's mounted by almost every dog at that park. and all the regulars are pretty attentive of their dogs, i know a lot of people say "don't take your bully to the park" but he really really loves the open field and playing with other dogs. i really want to take him again....yet, i'm kind of scared.

if you go again, let me know. and if i go again i'll try to update you on his personality. i don't think opie will turn aggressive because of this, he was very scared, shaking and his tail was between his legs. ugh, i hate thinking about that day

Good points.........broken record, isn't it? I will never understand the whole dog park thing......great place for your dog to pick up a parasite or disease as well. In this day and age, why aren't people researching this breed/mix a bit more before hand........it's on your darn phone for crying out loud! Not aimed at the OP in particular.

People get these dogs called "pitbulls" and see how sweet and friendly they are, with no prey drive.....and think their dog is what a real "pitbull" is.

Lol, fur mommies have done more harm to the breed than anyone, in spreading misinformation, although unintentionally.

True American (pit) Bull Terriers can NEVER be taken to a dog park!
That is like playing Russian roulette....sooner or later, they will find the round in the chamber at the worst possible time.

I have heard lying "professionals" say they can train any dog to get along with other dogs, not knowing training has nothing to do with dog aggression in Pit Dogs.
It is genetic and cannot be trained out!

If any trainer ever claims to make dogs dog friendly, make them sign a paper agreeing to test their claim at a dog park.
If the dog attacks and kills other dogs, they are the ones liable for the lawsuit.
I'd bet all I own that no trainer, professional or not, would ever sign as a guarantee. Lol.
Shows how little faith they have....they'd then say you have a bad dog.
