Does Ear Cropping change your dogs temperament?

I wanted to get my Pit bull puppies ears cropped, but I've heard if you get them done, it can possibly Change there personality and Temperment. I've also heard if you get ur puppies ears cropped it can give them pain for there entire life. Is this true and btw my puppy is 10 weeks old, Thank you.

No. Absolutely not.

The usual age to crop is 8-12 weeks. Some vets will push it to 16 but it's not recommended and most won't do it that late. At this point, if you haven't thoroughly researched a good vet and set up a consult/surgery appointment, it's pretty late.

Welcome to the forum Gino187. Not judging but what is the purpose of cropping your puppy's ears?

Depends on who does the crop. I know someone who had them done illegally and they were done incorrectly and it caused issues their whole life. I have never heard of someone who went to a licensed vet and had them professionally done have issues.

Same. I mean all surgeries have risks, I just find it ironic how the ones who are usually anti-crop will try and shove spay/neuter down your throat in the same breath. A bit of cartilage seems a little less extreme than removing functioning organs, IMO.

My confusion is why someone would put a dog through obvious pain and suffering because they love the way it looks. We recently had a member loose it's dogs life during an ear cropping. And no, I don't promote neutering or spaying down someone's throat in the same breath. IMO, unnecessary surgery is exactly that. It is your dog and you can do what you want to it and that is what I prefaced my post with "not judging".

i hear you. probably a little pain during healing, not much if any with my last doggie big boy. think 'suffering' is a bit dramatic tho, if you have a daughter are her ears pierced? or is that also pain and suffering? culture has custom it always will, i feel blessed to be able to provide it for my pup in a safe, sterile environment under the care of a physician. especially since he's gonna look wicked awesome!

I agree, it is a cultural thing. I would never pierce or do any other body modification to my daughter or any one else, even if I thought they would look wicked awesome. That is a personal choice and their decision to do or not to do. Again, that's my opinion and why I prefaced my post with "not judging". That being said, if one of my dogs expressed a desire to have some of it's ears cut off I would have no objection. LOL.

So...you are anti spaying and anti neutering? I don't know about your area, but my city's shelter is 90% pits and mixes that nobody will ever adopt. Neutering and spaying pits is the only responsible thing. Pits are not like labs or goldens or even german shepherds- people are not lining up to shelters to adopt them. We were against neutering ours so early (3 mo old), but I can understand why a shelter insists on doing it. Someone bred their dog and threw the pup away. I wonder what the rest of his littermates are doing.
