Growls w Mom and not w Dad?

My husband and I have a 10 month Pitt/Vizsla mix from the HSS. He is ok at the dog park and never growls when walking w Dad. My husband was surprised that our pup growls when I walk him w any people in our neighborhood? Anyone else experience this? My feeling is it is fear growling. I have him sit and he is touching my legs until he stops. My husband thinks he is guarding. Why would he guard me and not my hubby. We will walk in our gated community and he will growl at a jogger across the street if he is with me.

Sounds like he is resource guarding. Why you and not hubby? Likely the "vibes" you are giving off. Are you comfortable walking him?

Sounds like your husband is correct. When the dog walks with you it feels the need to protect you. When it walks with your husband, it feels protected. This behavior can be changed by you taking the lead on the walk and correcting his growling. The dog needs to feel that you are in charge and then it won't have to be.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

Pits are protective and loyal dogs so that's probably why he's doing that. Need to train him more on dealing with people.
