Question about color genetics

Hey everyone! New to the forum. Had a question to ask in regards to my pup. I have a 1 year old brindle and the person who gave the dog to me showed me a pic of her parents. The sire is black, the dam is fawn. I've been reading a few articles and multiple ones say that a black (K) gene dog will not produce any brindle pups bc the (K) gene is dominant to the brindle (Kbr) gene. So basically the color variations include all, except brindle. My question is, how can my dog be brindle with a black sire? Does anyone know of people who have had this happen? Is it possible? My biggest concern is that the guy showed me a pic of the wrong sire and dam. I can't contact him anymore to even verify. Any input is appreciated

It could be possible since the K is dominant and only needs one copy to be expressed that the sire in question didn't pass on the K but the kbr gene. If he was K/kbr and passed on the kbr and not the K it would be possible if another kbr gene came from the dam.

Thank you Carriana for your reply. Yea I'm not too great on the genetics subject however what you've said makes sense. I was under the impression that the K gene would always be passed on without the possibility of brindle ever being passed. Thanks again!

My bitch is black brindle and had a black sire. I'm not good with colour genetics either but someone once explained the possibility to me too.
