Yes, OTHER bull breeds. There is no stigma on Mastiffs and Boxers and English Bulldogs. Just the "pitbulls", and we all know what image comes to peoples' minds. A large dog with a large head, cropped ears, and huge muscles. The ones you see in the hoods held by thugs. I lived in Chicago and saw a lot of that going on, now I live in Milwaukee and see it as well. I tell people that those are not real pitbulls and most likely mastiff mixes, but I see breeders sell huge pups with huge heads all the time, and the parents of these pups are huge as well. And those claim to be pedigreed breeders.
Super cute pooch BTW. A big problem is most of those dogs people call pit bulls are other bull breeds.
Claiming to be a oure bred and actually being one are two different things. So many factors come into play. One way to help is for all owners to do their part. I ahve gotten into may conversations and sometimes verbal fights when people tell me what breed my dog is. They ask me, I tell them I have no idea, they sai well he is a pit bull, I say how do you know? Why do tey even care they dont feed my dog. I am proud to won a mutt. I always take time to tey and let people know there is no way to know what breed a dog is unless you know how the dog has been bred for many generations. It could be mixed with so many other breeds and so many registries are not reputable its not easy to figure out.
in Ireland Breed Discriminatory legislation was passed and a lab was labeled a pit bull and killed after being in solitary confinement until the courts decided his fate, his name was Lennox and not a pit bull. In San Francisco BDL was enacted because of a Presa Canario killed a woman. Not a pit bull. In Montreal they just banned pit bulls because a Boxer attacked and killed a woman. there is no rhyme or reason and no basis for any of these laws.
Do not let people tell you what breed of dog you own just because they think they know what breed of dog you own, by its appearance. My friend has a Border Collie x Jack Russel Terrier and has been denied insurance for her home by a few places who refused to believe her dog is not a pit bull. It doesn't even have a bull breed in it!
