Unhappy My grey boy is turning white!

Hello! I found this forum and I'm hoping someone in here can shed some light to our situation. I have a 3 almost 4 year old blue pitbull, Nixon. He has always been grey with the exception of a beautiful white patch on his chest. He was never on flea and tick medication as he never had either. We recently moved and he has a huge backyard and got fleas almost immediately so I put him on Advantage. Right around the same time of the first application he started getting white patches of grey hair on his back. At first I was like okay, maybe his fur is just reacting to the medication. But its growing. He is getting more and more white patches of fur on his back, and now its starting to go to his face and tail (both of which I definitely didn't put the flea meds on) Also, I have checked, there is nothing going on with his skin that I can see, no scabs no itching, nothing. He is acting fine, but of course the internet is bringing up all of these possible things it could be like cushings disease etc.

Has anyone ever encountered this?

Thanks

-a nervous mama.

That is def not a common thing to happen. You should understand that topical flea meds use the oils of the skin to spread over the surface of the skin to kill the fleas. I personally don't use topicals as they tend to make my boys hair fall out and make him lethargic. I prefer Bravecto. One and done for three months.

If he were mine, I would wash him a few times in Dawn dish soap to get the topical stuff off. Then take him to the vet to make sure there's no other adverse reaction. Ask for oral flea meds while you're there.

Unfortunately, due to over breeding for color and being a recessive color, our blue dogs end up with a lot of allergies, sensitive skin, and health issues.

my boy has lost pigmentation in a few small areas where he has scars. the hair grew back but white in those areas. melanocytes are types of cells that add pigment color to the hair as it grows from the follicle. if the skin is damaged, the follicle might also be damaged and it is possible for hair to regrow without pigment.
from the pattern of pigment loss on your dogs back, i would guess 1) sunburn that damaged the hair follicles. or 2) topical meds that damaged the hair follicles.
i would also suggest asking a vet.
