Almost time

This time next week Iíll be Southern bound!!! So excited for our next chapter. All three mutts are doing extremely well with the chaos in the house. Everything is boxed and packed and they havenít skipped a beat. Movers come tomorrow so that should be interesting to see how they do.

I think this may be one of the only times ever having littermates is beneficial. As long as Kaos & Nala have each other (and me of course) NOTHING seems to faze them. Ciara has always taken her cues from me and the unflappability of the pups seems to give her an even bigger sense of calm. She even weathered the recent storms and fireworks over the summer like a champ and in years past that has been a struggle. Iím proud of my old girl and she is so clearly much better off here with me.

Since the movers are coming early I will have a carload if stuff to take with me for the drive. I am extremely fortunate and grateful that my regular dog walker and his wife have agreed to make the trek south with us and will be driving the dogs in my car. She has some back issues so she has to get up and walk every few hours and four hands for three dogs is much easier than two hands and three dogs for breaks. He can handle both pups and Ciara is gentle enough for her to walk. Iím so lucky to be able t leave my dogs in the hands of people I know and trust, who adore them and they adore right back. They LOVE the car so it shouldnít be a problem.

Unfortunately we have to move into temporary housing until we find a perfect place so theyíll be bounced around a bit; however, I have faith that they will handle it like champs. It makes things so much easier having confident, socialized dogs!

Saw our vet for the last time last week for some vaccines including Bordatella (just in case), Bravecto, and health certs. Got some anti-inflammatories for Ciara to hold her should she get sore and some Cerenia in case of car sickness since itís a long ride. Iíll also fast the dogs the night before so they will be less likely to get upset stomachs and will be excited to eat when we get there. I donít anticipate any issues as theyíre all in the car with me regularly and have never had issues but Iíd rather be over prepared! I wonít lie, I cried a little leaving the vet as heís been my vet for 20 years (he even watched my boy grow up!) and will be the doc that I truly miss. It will take a while to find a new vet and build that trust up again but Iím sure I will find someone me and the mutts mesh with.

If anyone has any last minute tips or tricks to make it all easier for them, Iím all ears!

Do drugs and drink heavily.

Happy it's finally happening for you Jess. Hopefully, the stress of relocation will be the last one in your life for awhile. You have handled things remarkably and I sincerely hope that there are brighter days, good times and laughter waiting for you in Sweet Home Alabama. Gonna be a lot of changes and I'm hoping most of them are good ones. Travel safe my friend.

Best of luck and safe travels.. when I drove down to Florida from PA, it was me, 2 teenagers, 2 cats, 3 dogs. I made sure I had plenty of water, toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, doggy shampoo and bath towels. I also carried a toddler training potty in case we couldn't stop along the way. Lots of snacks, of course.
Advil, tums, something for diarrhea. Flash light. Extra batteries. Motor oil. Extra dog food, baby wipes.
I am sure you'll think of all this... but just in case.. that's the only tip I can think of. Be prepared.
I can always hear my mom saying "It's better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it. 😊
