Wow, great topic!
We've been going through the same thing with Cooper.
Chewing everything, lots of pent up energy.
I walk/run with him for two miles everyday, flirt until he drops..He recovers so quickly that he's quickly ready to rip again. He'll completely consume a bully stick in a matter of an hour! He really likes the Kong toy that you can fill. We fill it with peanut butter, then freeze it to slow Coop down.
Today we went for a two mile walk, wnet out for ice cream, did an hour of tug-of-war and flirt. He just finished working onthe Kong. I think he's slowing down..Bed time for him is 9:30! He is fading fast!

I think my problem is I work days so I play with him for about 20 minutes before work, feed him then crate him till my sister lets him out for me around 11am for an hour or two, then he is back in the crate till I get home around 5:30pm. By then he is a ball of fury and wants to cause some mayhem!

I have to admit though. Since I created this thread...Axel has calmed down! He did not chew anything up in the past 7 days! A new record for him.

we have the same dog!
when I read posts like this, I feel SO fortunate to have this little guy lol!

has never chewed anything except from my belt and one shoe (well, he tore apart the heel lol) and one correction was all it took

I never crated him, EVER lol (and mind you, my room is far from being puppy proof lol)

housebroken at 3 and a half months old

as for the OP, your dog is probably bored...

and do you redirect him when he's chewing things he shouldn't?
if not, that could also explain it... if he doesn't know what's right or wrong to chew on, he's gonna chew on everything lol

Yea the only time he's chewed is when I'm not outside with him I will admit. When I catch him chewing something he shouldn't...I immediately take him out and play some tug of war with him using his tug rope and then he'll spend an hour running around the yard with his rope trying to get me to play some more.

This is probably the age that most end up in shelters because people "cant deal with it".
Glad you are looking for help!!
Exercise, consistency & patience....he will be a good boy in no time!
It seems that he does well after you play with him. That just may be his real drive/motivation...YOU.
You said you have a river by you....any chance he would like dock diving??

Well I found out about 2 weeks ago that he has no fear of the water as I took him down to the river off leash so he could "frolic" and as soon as he saw the river he ran over and jumped right in up to his ears!

Aximus.. everything that everyone posted already is excellent advice. I just want to add one tidbit of info here.. I personally have never known an APBT to outgrow the chewing stage! They're constantly working those jaw muscles, so you just have to find something to keep his interest for longer than 30 minutes at a time. Sounds like you might be onto something here. Good luck with curbing his chewing habits, and the rest of his behavioral issues. You might try taking him for a walk whenever you can, and while you're walking, work in some obedience. Take him off your property so that he can check out new things and see new people and dogs. He doesn't necessarily have to meet them, but he'll get a whiff of em and all the other exciting things that he's not used to on the property. This is great mental stimulation for him and he will be more exhausted when you bring him home! Remember, a tired bully is a happy bully!

I also think as time pass with the correct training the dog will learn.

my pup was a PITA, grabs everything destroyed phones/cords etc... We always said NO and she got it... Now I see her sometimes run around and start to pick up a shoe but before she gets it she quickly decides not to, it's the cutest thing ever...

Exercise helps but letting your dog know what's acceptable and unacceptable through training is a must.
