CATS!!!! Should they get away with it?

I think cat's are allowed to get away with too many things. Why can they and dogs can't? I'm posing this question. Why is it acceptable for a cat to roam the neighborhood free, without human supervision, off leash. And if the cat is attacked by a dog... then it was the dog is to blame. I don't know how other cat owners here keep their cats. But my cats were always strictly indoors only. I occasionally took them out on a little leash but most times the cats I had acted timid outside and wanted to be in doors. Here in the city though, there are cats that freely roam the apartment complex. The leasing lady here has a cat that has roamed free for the past 2 years that we've lived here. I think cats should be held to a more strict ordinance.

I think cats should be allowed to roam around as long as they are fixed and up to date on there shots. They usually don't attack people. Which is why I think they are allowed o roam around. If a cat gets attacked by a dog cause it went in the dogs yard then the kitty wasn't very smart. Now if the cat got attacked by a dog on the street that's a different story because obviously the dog should have been on leash.

Cats do not maul people. Dogs do, also cats probably hunt mice and other small critters that can eat your garden. My cats are strictly indoor only but let me tell you that my house is bug free because they kill anything that flies in. I feel bad if an innocent mouse makes it in my home they will tear it up lol I fed them raw chicken hearts at 8 weeks old and they became food agressive lol I have never seen a cat buzz like a pager when I got close to it when she was eating her chicken heart lol if that was my dog he would have been in trouble since it was my kitty it was ok

That is funny that you wrote this because my wife and I were talking about this subject just the other day. I Just recently moved this past weekend to the new place that allows our dog in fact my new neighbors have cats roaming outside I guess that they feed straight cats or something. Whatever the case may be what I do know that those cats make my dog go crazy and makes them look viscous no matter how much I pull on the pinch collar. So Cats should be in the house if not in the pound not roaming the streets, because now because of that I cannot walk all three of my dogs I need to make two trips because of that. I rather be safe than sorry and have my boy turn his anxiety on my other dogs because he wants to get one of those stray cats.

when it comes to cats and issues like this we need to refer to the history of thier domestication.
cats were not domesticated to work for or even with humans. thier use was to keep the rodents and pests away. we didn't bring them to us, we merely stopped chasing them away from us and let them do thier thing. as they had litters and some of those kittens became braver and braver and would come into contact with humans we started to take them in. cats truely choose when they wanted to be "pets". to assume that all cats want to sit indoors and watch tv with you is a just not gonna happen. many cats roam, as is thier nature. they always have a homebase but they still feel the urge to explore thier world. having a cat that is speutered will make it more likely to not want to go outside, only if they have never experienced it before, if they have been outdoors once they will have more of an urge.

while i do get aggrevated with our neighborhood cats that feel the need to poop in my flower bed and garden, i would never hold it against thier owner for letting thier cat roam.
we prefer indoor cats anymore after loosing our last one to a stray dog. again that is a risk of having an indoor outdoor cat.

I used to work with a woman who's town had a leash law, and it applied to cats as well as dogs, cats were not permitted to roam free. I know in my old childhood neighborhood there were 2 families with outdoor cats, and people complained all the time that they pooped int he gardens etc. When those cats died, we got rats coming out of the storm drains, and living under porches etc. We never had rodents in the area before the cats were gone.

My cats, however are totally useless, 3 cats and not 1 dead mouse. Even Lady killed one lol.

Omg. I feel you. I have a deaf cat, so he;s indoors. My neighbor down stairs has cats that are almost feral, they're not fixed and have litters of kittens, and they do that damn sex meow outside my window every night, cause they want my cat to hump them. I'm like " HE CAN'T HEAR YOU!"

Seriously, is it illegal to kidnap cats to get them fixed?

Aryan stays inside 24-7. She's a scaredy cat She will only go in the back yard with the dogs if I'm out there. other than that she's stays inside. Darkness was a wild cat to start with. We found him under a dumpster behind the old tattoo shop. Some one had killed all others in his litter. Ryan spent a hour trying to catch that little butt head to. Once we caught him he was trying fiercely to attack us. He was all of a bout a pound i think super tiny. So we got him all his shots and fixed him. He doesn't stay at home much he just kinda hangs out with the other cats around the block. I think it was better for us to take him i and fix him rather than let him run around making tons of babies.

I don't know if it is there but it totally is here. You just take them to the vert and say you trapped a feral cat and they will fix it. They often cut the top of one ear so they can tell wich wild ones have been trapped and fixed

Agreed. I hate that people can have outdoor cats but not dogs.
My neighbors have about 82743495 cats that just roam around
pooping in our yard. Peeing on stuff and getting into our garbage.
Annnndd they taunt my poor Nismo. They are just plain bullies if you ask me.

Awwww poor Niz. Marley was picked on by mmy moms cats when he was a little pup. The big male cat would wrap him up and do that hard kick with the back feet to his face. He would cry like a baby.
