Question pup or trained adult?

wanting to get into weight pulling. Love the pit bull breed. Is it horrible to start out with a trained pulling dog as opposed to a pup?
Where would I find a trained adult for sale? Fair Price?
Lastly, can a none registered pit bull, compete in APBA competion?
thanks, "J"

I think you can get any adult dog that might like pulling and train them to pull yourself. For a puppy you would have to wait until it was older before you could even train it. I don't see a problem with getting an adult as long as it's treated well.

look at the mod list on the left of the screen and pm Oldfortkennels. There is a litter of great pups on the ground from some great WP dogs for sale. They are puppies but I heard they are only 250, nice peds for WP.

I'm thinking that the APBA is a "registry" that will put papers on anything, so it would follow that a non-registered dog could compete in whatever they offer. A non-registered dog can also do APA and IWPA pulls. A non-registered, neutered dog can do UKC pulls with an LP license.

I think he meant APA maybe? Those dogs I listed above I think are UKC and ADBA registered so you could compete in any venue. I bought a trained WP dog and I love her but it is more satisfying to train and wok a dog yourself. JMO

Here is the catch I often see. You can buy an already trained weight puller, however sometimes the dog will not work for you as well as it did the ones who trained it.

My recommendation is either buy a SEASONED dog with multiple titles that is automatic, (will still not pull as well usually) or buy a pup.

I would go with the pup and learn the breed and the sport together. You can start training a pup at 7-9 months old and can be competing within the year. This gives you a chance to bond and build a relationship with the dog. Much of winning in weight pull comes down to the dogs heart, not strength. Get a dog that loves you and wants to work for you, it works out better in the end.
