think 40-50lbs and thats not a bad size pretty average for pitbull , why did you get the dog? for protection? do you know anything about the breed? Welcome by the way hope you do alot of reading on here and ask any questions you may have, they really arent the best guard dogs if thats what you were looking for. Why has he been sick anything serious? and hope to see some pics posted soon we love seeing new dogs . And bigger doesnt always mean better dont stress on how big he will get as long as he is healthy thats all that should matter

thank you i plan on putting picks up and yes for protection i know a lot of people are afraid of dogs so more for the intimidation factor and who knows God forbid anything ever happens again he may stop it but not knowing a lot about dogs i picked out a pretty submissive puppy who doesnt bark his a very good boy though and nothin serious just some worms and kennel cough i heard both were common and im treating him

I'd say prolly 50lb range give or take a bit. The APBT isn't good at gaurding. They've been bred for too many generations to love humans. LIke you said the only thing that would probably scare off a burgler is "intimidation". They see a dog and are affraid to go in. I highly doubt your dog would do anything more than wag it's tail and greet the burgler though...lol. You want a gaurd dog, get a breed for it

Can't wait to see pics though! Post'em up!

well some of the pits you look up on google are actually american bullys not apbt, the bullys can be huge 60lbs-100lbs depending on the lines and how inshape they are ect . a good size for a apbt is anywhere 30-70lbs so 50 is right in there. labs arent huge dogs either { well some are i guess} my old lab was only about 65lbs full grown.

well thank you i love pitbulls id love to contribute in showing that they are great family dogs probably the best i wanted one but when i saw this dog at the pound idk he just felt like my dog i dont have any pictures yet saved on my comp. but hes thin beautiful brindle coloring has a pit tail lab paws (webbed toes) a medium snout thinner like a lab a labs black black nose and smooth short pit fur he still has a lot of room to fill out because hes a puppy n was a stray so i think he'll fill out nicely like i said 5 lbs in 2 weeks

If he had worms and kennel cough then he's far from his peak condition. Get a good food and get him healthy and he'll fill in. When he turns 1 you can start harder exercise if you like, I think that's what builds muscle.

50lbs isn't bad. It's the perfect size for the APBT in my opinion. My girl is 19in at the whithers and 50lbs. There are two spectrums to the APBT world, the larger more Bully style dogs, and the smaller more game style dogs.

sounds like your dog will obviously get a little heavier as you said it had worms and kennel cough. so he will put on some more weight once he is fully healthy. once your dogs hits about a year old you will see what thier size will likely be.

Pitties are awful guard dogs a chiwawa would be more reliable and I know this because we have both my pit bull would hand out kisses while they are robbing my house and he is around 80 pounds or more. The 7 pound chidevil doesn't like noises at night and goes out to inspect the source of them. Bernie just lays there and doesn't care at all lol.

if you are looking to build muscle the only way is to exercise and feed good food and feed the correct amount for your dogs activity level and size. if you are feeding your dog an apropriate food i personally don't see any reason to add vitamins, unless suggested by your vet. our dogs do get a scoop of plain yogurt every night with thier dinner, mostly to stave off thier notorious pit bull gas that and they really like it. also i recomend talking to your vet about geting your dog on or off of puppy food.
our dogs go to the river to swim, get regular walks and get at the very least half an hour a day of good play in the back yard, like fetch or tug. while it isn't the best it keeps our couch warmers in good shape.
while i agree a pit bull is one of the worst gaurd dogs just because of thier people loving personalities, i will vouch that when some jerk thinks about breaking into my house and sees Boomers big old head they definitely think twice.
treat your dog as part of your family and they will come to your aide when it is needed.

As already been said: pits do not make good guard dogs, the aren't actually big dogs, and a beware of dog sign isn't a deterrent and doesn't get you far legally, since if your dog does actually bite someone who was trespassing on your property, the sign is like a big admittance of guilt. A no tresspassing sign and a good security system will be your safer bet if you are looking to thwart would be burglars in the future.

Although, I do have to admit, pits do make a good deterrent when it comes to burglars. We've been broken into twice in the last three years and the second time we caught the guy with the help of Loki who was 9mos at the time. All he did was intimidate the crap out of the guy, but he did try to make friends once we had the guy sitting down waiting for the police to arrive....I will never forget the guy sitting on my husband's weight bench with Loki licking his hands trying to get pets.
