Barking question

Ok,is Bruno like a rare breed or something. I almost NEVER hear him bark.

The few times I have,it's been at the vacuum,or once at the cat outside. But other then the fact people see me walk him all the time,no one would even know I have a dog.

All the pitties I've been around love to bark. Bruno will let out 1 big "woof" At a dog to get it's attention, but if the dog barks back,he turns and leaves. Hahaha.

Seriously though, are Pit bulls just naturally quiet? Or is Bruno just a freak?

Not saying I don;t like the quiet. Such a change from MoMo who barked at her own shadow.
It's just new to me. Never had a dog who didn't bark.

He doesn't even bark when someone knocks at the door.

Deebo is the same way. He's very quiet, doesn't make any noises really (unless im not home, sometimes he cries). And sometimes it upsets me cuz I want him to do something, like make a silly noise! lol. But I'd rather him be quiet than bark for every little thing. He doesn't bark for the door either. I've heard him bark a few times like at strangers in the street but its just one woof, and at my moms dog, we keep them seperated at her house and he barks at everything and sometimes Deebo barks at the door. But for the most part he's real quiet. Even if we pass a barking dog he stays quiet. I like that =)

The only time any of my dogs bark is if they hear something or if they need to go to the bathroom and I don't let them out right away...

I think our breed is usually quiet.

Sasha doesn't bark at all really. Only time she barks is when she see's an animal outside, she gets her toy under a bed or something and can't get it or she hears the door bell...

Sasha used to bark at vacuums and loud tools but she got used to them I guess..

Lex is the same way, he almost never barks. Though he makes strange grunts, whines & other odd noises - when he sees a rabbit. He's most expressive with his face from what me & my husband see. For the most part he's a very passive, submissive dog.

He has given the alert bark once or twice in rare occasion, once when someone tried to break in to our neighbors side window, which is right next to my bedroom window...

Lily barks but not just to hear herself, usually the pizza man is coming, that's about it.

My dogs have mostly been quiet. Debo and Onyx, Lexus, Bentlie, Bruce, Kodiak, Axil, and the fosters Co-Co, Annie, and Fred (Labrador) always barked when they heard my vehicle pull up, like "Yay! Mom's home!!" Alyia, the pit/chow/cattle dog mix would bark at the doorbell/knock at the door, adults walking by the yard/house, doorbells on tv, etc. I know they all barked if they saw squirrels, ground squirrells/prairie dogs, cats, etc. that didn't belong in the yard. I've always enjoyed the quiet too. It seems to just be a natural thing with our breed. But, it also depends on the individual dog. Bentlie was APBT/GSD mix.. and that dog barked incessantly for nothing, lol. But, I quickly broke him of that, and never had a problem with him after I settled that little issue.

Gargamel was a crazy barker when he was a puppy, had to curtail that ASAP due to neighbors and annoyance factors. But now he hardly EVER barks, except at balloons and if people come to the door after dark. I feel so bad about the balloon thing, seriously, but am afraid if I show him they are just big balls no kid with balloons will be safe from his popping nature! lol

The only time my dog Sadie barks is when she's chaseing the laser pointer outside. And i have to say, i can see why. She's a 90 pound dog, but her bark sounds like a Chihuahua's. I can't help but laugh when she does it.

She also won't let the other dogs in the house bark. She'll attack them if they try. They don't get hurt, she's just lets them know that it won't be tolerated.

The only time she lets them, is if it's their warning/protection bark. In which case she'll go check it out and see what they are barking at.

PoohsGramma is an unknown quantity at this point
Pooh is the same. We've had him since the beginning of the summer and I could count on 1 hand the number of times I have heard him bark. He barked a couple times in obedience class because a female doberman he was pretty excited by barked. He barked a couple weeks ago at some squirrels that were right on the other side of the sliding glass door. Other than that, I think he has barked one or two other times....I have never had such a silent dog. He might whine sometimes or sigh really loudly when he's bored or wants someone to notice him that's about it. If he wants to go in our out he just sits there and waits quietly for someone to notice...doesn't even scratch at the door or anything....totally amazing to me.

I definitely agree with this.
I had a mini eskie and they're notorious for barking, but my dog never barked when I was around. She barked once when someone knocked cuz she thought I was asleep on the couch.
