Research your breeder!!!! (PIC)

I cant stress it enough to people and some dont ever listen! This is what happens when you support puppy mills and BYB's.

8 week old puppy cant walk, hold its head up, use rear legs, barely opens its eyes...poor little girl.

Vet said MRI costs $1800 to find out exactly whats wrong and the brain surgery will cost $5000. This is a family members dog who didnt research their breeder and just bought any ol dog.

I think they are going to try and take legal actions. Any advice on which route they should take or if they have a chance of winning anything? The breeder said he will take the dog back but he wont refund them or do anything to make it right. He said "Take me to court if you want money".

was the dog walking and had open eyes when they picked her up? I agree with researching your breeders but if the pup acted normal when they picked it up then there is a chance it is something related to the new owners and getting proper vet care and MRI if needed to rule that out would be needed if you want to get money out of the breeder, they wont award them any money if its not proven that it is the fault or neglect of the actual breeder. As well if there wasnt a contract signed where the breeder takes responsibility for certain issues then they may find themselfs out of luck. Every buyer and breeder should use contracts it saves everyone a headache later on down the line. Now if the dog wasnt walking properly or eyes open when they picked her up well thats just ignorant on there part and they may very well be at fault there as well. Sometimes the biggest lessons learnt are the hardest.

Puppy was normal and a few days later it started acting odd and wobbly and over a week or so it got worse and worse. when they brought it to the vet he said it was a neurological fault due to the breeding...the dog has been pampered and nothing has happened to it. They have had several other dogs and know the drill to taking care of them.

As for the breeder no contract or papers or anything. When they asked if there were any hip problems or anything he denied then when my cousin called back the breeder said it happens every litter and he just puts them down to weed them out. Very shady operation.

A good reason to have everything on paper in a contract, its very sad but unfortunately most likely the only way to see any money is to get the tests done that are needed to prove that it is the breeders fault which as you stated above is pretty pricey and then even then there really isnt a guarantee they will see money back. They have to rule out any possibility this happened in there care EX. toxic plants he got into or cleaners, neglect on there part, abuse ect { I know your sure they are great owners and they probably are , its just when a court looks at cases like this they need absolute proof } But im really leaning towards not much justice will be done due to no contract. Something they may consider doing is reporting this to the SPCA , at the very least they may not see money back but they may cause an investigation on this breeder and if things show up on his property he could have dogs removed from his care and face a fine with the city. Did the vet give a prognosis on this dog if they do go ahead with the MRI and its a neurological disorder, if its that bad it may just be in the dogs intrest to euthanize , at least they will have everything on record with the vet incase they do decide to go to court. Very sad this lil pup has to go through this.

I told him odds are there is nothing court is going to do...they are just angry. I told them if they cant afford surgery to just put the poor girl down...she is only suffering.

I havent gotten the whole story yet but he said originally it was hips and then when everything else happened he got it checked again. The vet did blood screens and other tests apparently and nothing looks out of the norm. Im waiting for them to call me back to find out what else the vet said about what type of surgery it would end up being and what they are looking for in the mri.

ya thats understandable Id be mad as well, heres a link to a good read maybe this issue with the pup has an explanation and can be treated , although the vet would know best , they could always take the pup for a 2nd opinion and see if the price changes with another vet , at this point there isnt much more to lose.

Couldn't agree more about researching before buying a pup. Sorry to see a dog looking like that. Is there any way of seeing any other pups from the litter or are they scattered far and wide by now?

Unhappy

Check your state rules..
Most have that "3 Day Lemon Law".. and yes this applies to puppies, because they are seen as property.

Your family member can also report them to the BBB, (Better Business Bureau) and you can report them for fraud, I think to your local Post Office, I will look into that one.

Poor thing.

Poor pup... I hope it gets better! That is just awful!

I'm curious to knwo why the vet would even suggest a brain surgery without knowing what was wrong? Also what other tests have already been done like blood work to try to pinpoint what may be going on with the pup?
