Arg, CRATE REST!

Ok, so Kane has been on crate rest since Friday morning after he came up lame on his right rear leg after a playing with the neighbor's dog. I'm pretty sure it's just a soft tissue issue as he's shown remarkable improvement since then, but he still has another week to go so I can make sure it's resolved.

The reason for this post is that it's only the third day and we're BOTH GOING CRAAAAAAZY. Aaaaagh.

He's on leashed potty breaks and it's like trying to control a bucking bronco sometimes. He's trying his hardest to control the zoomies, I know, but still. And when he's inside, he whines and paws at the door to his crate and mopes and gives me his pit bull WOEFACE even though I've given him frozen kongs stuffed full of peanut butter, cheese, a little bit of cat food, and his kibble. He's got raw bones and his favorite stuffed toy with him too (the one he treats like a baby).

What else can I do?! I've been trying to increase his mental exercise with some trick training, but it seems like there's only so much I can do to compete with the zoomies building up inside.

It gets better and easier! Believe me I know first hand....I posted a thread when Bella was on crate rest because I needed mental support LMAO!! I felt terrible leaving her in her crate for days (ten days to be exact ) Sadie was cracking on me to! lol! I get soft when it comes to my babies four legged and two I did the frozen stuffed kongs with the BB canned food and I bought her a $30 deer antler which helped alot. She would work on that for hours. Really, that is all you can do.

When I didn't get any comments on here besides yours, I was kinda afraid of that.

I guess I'll have to suck it up--for both Kane and me.

my dog has a rear leg injury and my vet said that i should restrict his activity but i don't keep him in a crate. i feel like it actually makes it easier to keep him from going too crazy cause he's not all cooped up all the time. my vet even says he can go on leash walks but no running twisting playing tug anything like that. just my experience, maybe you could talk about with your vet... they're might be a reason why he/she recommends keeping the dog in the crate, but to me it makes more sense to let the dog be out with you just keep them from running around.

Actually, when dealing with an injury it makes MUCH sense to do strict crate rest. How else is your dog going to get better when still using the leg to walk around your house on? I had my girl on ten days of strict crate rest and it was harder on me than it was on her. If I didn't crate rest her she would probably still be limping or she would just keep re-injuring herself. I just think crate rest is the faster easier way to get your dog better and to keep them from moving around so much and prevent further injury JMO
