Tips on exercise

So after seeing how extremely fat Pretty Girl looks in this photo I took the other day,it made me do some thinking.I need ideas on what to do to help get tubby slimmer. She only eats 2 cups of food a day.She doesn't like doing flirtpole/springpole.She does run on the 2 acres we have as much as she wants, but I cannot take her on walks because there are so many loose dogs that run around here. She's not motivated at all in anyway that I've tried. She's just an all around lazy dog.
Any ideas on what I can do to slim her down?

Cut her food down a half cup maybe? Will she fetch? Have you had her thyroid checked? Oh, and what about a treadmill?

Right now she gets a cup in the morning and then a cup at night.I've cut her food down before but all it ends up doing is making her look real unhealthy since she doesn't do any exercise.Everything just kinda hangs lol.It makes her boobs look even worse than they do now.
I haven't had her thyroid cheked, hadn't even thought about it.Thanks for mentioning it,I'll definitely have to do that.
She plays fetch for a few minutes then she loses interest.I have no room here for a treadmill anywhere except outside.I don't think that would work out too well lol.

Have you thought about getting her a harness and hooking up a tire or something and just walking her around the property? if there are things for it to snag the tire on that will help making her have to pull through it. its a good way to burn some fat and energy it really toned loki up doing that. does she swim? thats a good way too although I know being winter probably not doable this time of year. Other then that just cut her food maybe 1/2 cup, and up the fetching games even if she only plays 10 minutes or so try getting in a couple games of fetch a day or run around the property.

All good suggestions.Thanks!
We live in what's called the sandhills,so the sand building up around the tire while pulling whould definitely make it harder on her to pull.
I have no access to a pool so that's out of the question. There is the Cape Fear River near here but I would be too scared of a gator or snake getting her lol.

if its warm out try seeing if she will chase a hose around in the yard, or have you tried a laser? Its not something I use all the time because he really focus on it and I don't like how he blocks everything else out when I use it with him. See if she might like to run around after something like that?

ooooo, Im glad we dont have snakes or gators to worry about. The shows on tv showing python hunters and those gator guys scare me lol. The sand sounds good for working out on though , that would offer alot of resistance for sure.

Thanks for the suggestions!I've actually already tried both lol.She could care less about the hose, she actually runs from it lol.And I bought a laser for the cats and tried it on her and she acted like it wasn't even there.I think she's just lazy and there might be no helping her lol.

I grew up in Florida so I'm used to having to deal with gators.I actually love em,they're my favorite animal.
I reckon the next step for me then is to get a harness and try and work her fat butt lol.

Pep is the same way , we got her older and the old owners { both of them} never played with her so she had no idea what to do with a toy , even now if I can get her to chase a ball or toy it lasts maybe 5 minutes. And she dont do rain , snow, wet, cold, or dark lol. She will run though for a brief time maybe 10 minutes if im lucky but i have to be with her and running sometimes dragging her fat butt lol. I have the same problem with her as you do with your girl she just isnt motivated. Wont touch a spring pole either lol although she is very food motivated and if i hold a treat infront of her she will dance and follow me lol. Unfortunately she makes me work 10 x harder then her just to get her moving lol by the end of our work outs im exhausted and she isnt even panting lol. Also if we do a circle in the forest she knows when we are close to home and wont go down certain trails she will stop and not move lol she knows where home is and can be very stubborn.

I would make her work for her food. So don't feed her unless she is earning it in some way. Measure out the cups she normally gets and get her to do things for them throughout the day. Like a couple pieces of kibble for each time she brings you back the ball for fetch. Or getting a long line and having her practice coming to you. Or doing doggy pushups. Sit, Down, Sit, Down. Teaching her to stand and walk on her hind legs maybe. Then after learning she has to work for the food or she doesn't get it should get her pretty motivated to getting active.

Is there a possibility that she is getting food from another source? Kids, hunting, etc?

Have you considered trying to build her drive, even if it's just to play fetch or tug?

edit: Here's a funny video I always think of when building drive.

lmao @ that video.I may have to resort to doing that if nothing else works. She won't play tug and only fetches for a few minutes. She will do it longer if there's another dog going after it too.But that usually doesn't end so good so I don't do it anymore.

Nope no food from anywhere else. The kids do not feed her and I have the treats put up where they cannot reach them.

Oh my word that was funny! How many times have I done that in the past! (Until I joined GP of course).
What is her prey drive like? I would get a couple if mice if it were even mediocre drive. We have wild mice and rats that try to come in doors during the winter and my dogs go mad for them. It really kicks up the adrenalin and gets the dogs moving.
And FYI, I'm not sadistic- its just something I've noticed my pup has picked up from my husky. If he wasn't prey driven before- he sure is now. Also, never underestimate the power of influence between dogs, especially if one loves the exercise.

i also have a lazy dog or low drive dog.. he will not flirt pole or use the spring pole.or even fetch.. it was pretty frustrating..i even bought a slatmill thinking he would use it and i was wrong. lucky that i was able to sell it..so one of my my buddies suggested an electric treadmill.. so i pick one up used from craigslist for 40 bucks and made a frame to hook him up and now i could give him a good work out... you should give an e-mill a try..
