Hey guys. New here and have a concern.

Lost my Brindle baby about 3 months ago, just due to old age. Best bulldog i've ever owned. I adoped a yr old pup from a rescue. Had her for a month now. She's so timid and skddish that i can't even train her to sit. Sh ducks the head and tucks the tail and heads to her bed. Having hell housebreaking her. I got some freeze dried liver, so when she goes outside she gets loving and a treat, but seconds later she pee right in front of me in the house.

Begining to think we're not a fit. I don't think she'll ever outgrow the skiddishness, she is the way she is. I perfer a confident, happy go lucky pit bull. Thanks for letting me vent some.

Oh....I just saw. Only a month....my bad. You really need to work with her and give her a chance. I would find a good trainer who is familiar with the breed and start there. Take her places like pet stores and socialize her with people. What is her history seeing where she was from the pound? Sounds like she may have been abused?

She was a stray and came from a rescue. I've been working with her everyday. Even took last week, and 2 days this week to work with her.

Read my last post before yours there are some experienced trainers on here so give it sometime and hopefully they will chime in. However having her only for a month is really a short time to give up on her just yet.

I would seek a professional trainer then and keep working with her. It can take a dog a few months to get used to its new environment and come around.

When she does something wrong what is your reaction? I usually handle my pups a little different then I would the adults I tend tobaby the pups alot more { not in like a human swaddle kind of way} but using baby talk and being really soft voiced they tend to respond well to it. Alot of what It sounds to me is she just doesnt trust you yet and I dont know her story and what she came out of but there may be some underlying issues there { kinda a risk you take when getting a shelter dog, you dont know the bad things they have been through and sometimes need a bit longer then a dog comming from a well socialized loving breeder} not saying shelter dogs are bad its just part of what comes with them. I think if you spend more time just playing with her, bonding, building trust between you two it will be ok. Potty training is always 2 steps forward 1 step back,so that may go on for a bit just be consistent and at this point a TON of good praise is needed when she does anything good, whether its going potty outside, comming to you when called or responding to any command.
I would read up on here as well for socializing and get her used to places , people , new things. Alot of fear can at some point turn to aggression if not dealt with properly. With the tail tucking , One of my rescues I had here last year used to do that alot and I found while just playing if I saw it tucked or if out somewhere new and she tucked I would untuck it just gently pull her tail out from between her legs { i cant remember why the trainer told me to do this , but i noticed she would tuck alot less often then when she started}. But finding a good trainer who has experience with timid orr fearful dogs wouldnt be a bad idea either or maybe start attending some puppy classes for her. Might build her confidence being around other dogs and seeing how they should act.

Im sorry about your loss on your boy and that may be something that is putting a block between you and this new puppy as well. 3 months isnt that long ago and the hurt is still fresh. Alot of people get the same or similar breed after there beloved pet passes and maybe expects them to fill that gap or be similar and that isnt always the case. Each dog is different and maybe it just doesnt feel right because it isnt your boy. Only you willknow if its a match that will work , if it isnt well chalk it up for what it is and hopefully at least do right by her and find her an appropriate home , its noones fault when things dont work out but she deserves the best too. I hope you continue to work with her Im sure she will come around if you have the time and patients to put into her. Would love to see pictures no matter what you decide.

Well the first couple of time she peed in the house i didn't catch her, so no punishment. I caught her in the act Fri night. I told her no in a stern voice, soaked the pee up with an old towel took her ouside told her outside that's the word i've always use for go potty. No accidents until Tues evening. I had just taken her out, and came back in when she peed. I admit said pretty loudly are you shitting me. Not the right reaction. i know. She is pied red/white with a slight brindle in her coat. I love her full prick ears. She's a very pretty pet bull.

Good Post Angel, I thought that as well with the loss of the old pup hoping this dog would be similar. I know you said you have had a few, but I agree, give more time. A year they could have been in the rescue the whole time and are not used to so much interaction right now.

I have heard to develop a better trust you could hand feed your dog at meal times. kibble by kibble for a few days and see if she warms up to you any better. Do you take her in your fenced in yard when she does not come back in? Try going to another section of yard and bringing the yummy treats and calling her to check in and reward her with praise and treats. Move closer to the door after a few days and then she will know coming to you means good things and not ending her outside fun. Do NOT let her see you frustrated. Walk away from her if she disappoints you right now until she is less fearful.

Also, since she was in a rescue her potty training was probably not as great as it could have been in a single home. Do you have a schedule for her? A lot of pups pee when scared too, so she may not trying to do it, could be fear.

Maybe it's a little of wanting another Sadie. I had her 10 yrs. I know all dogs are different, but like i stated i like a confident dog. Last night went well. We play wrestled for a bit and after about 15 min with the flirt pole we came in and she layed at my feet while i watched a movie. Here's a couple pics of her.

She is a super sweet dog though.
