Interesting day at the park

Since the weather was absolutly gorgeous out today in SE Michigan I thought I would get the dog out of the house and take her to one of the parks in town that has walking trails through the woods. We arrived there and there were no cars meaning we had 100's of acres to ourselves, but I still put a leash on her. We are walking down some trails (basically deer paths deep in the woods) and all of a sudden there is a guy. My girl stops and looks protective at first, but then the butt wiggling began. Even with her happy apperiance this guy almost literally climbed a tree and said thats a pitbull. I replied yes she is, but she is very friendly and we continued walking. His reaction kind of bothered me at first, but, then again I am walking alone in the woods and even though she is friendly she has enough of a presence to deter people from possibly trying something like rob me etc. About a 1/2 hr later on our walk we hit a main path and her comes this lab/husky mix thing running towards us off leash!!! I'm glad my girl only weighs 50 pounds because I snatched her up over my head and figured I'd rather get bit then my girl, so I braced for it. The dog didnt bite me, but I was pissed that it was off leash. The owner apologized and said he didnt see us. I'm thinking to myself oh he didnt see my Jeep in the parking lot meaning he was not there alone. I started thinking if that was one of our dogs off leash they would have animal control there in a heart beat. I guess I have rambled on long enough, but the dog and I enjoyed our day aside from scaring a fellow hiker and having a loose dog charge us. The ladies at the bank and the guy at the leather shop weren't affraid of her.

2 out of 3 isn't bad Glad it turned out OK. I hate when I get rushed by off leash anything, let alone bigger dogs with high jumping capabilities!

Ya we have that issue here too I hate people who dont think about if our dogs arent friendly doesnt really matter if theres are or not. I reem people out if dogs rush me. The only guy who walks off leash that I havent had to yell at has a very welltrained dog and he has never left his side when we run into them and walks past us with no issue. I have had 3 attacks on my dogs from "friendly" dogs lol, so I dont take to kindly to anyone off leash now. Glad there was no incident with your encounter today though , hopefully the rest of the walk was peaceful.

that happens to me every now and again when i take my boy hiking. now i'm pretty good at snatching him up by the harness and slinging him over my shoulder... and giving dirty looks to crappy owners.

I was really surprised how fast I reacted. It must have been my fatherly instinct kicking in. In a flash I had grabbed her collar in one hand and scooped her stomach/hind quarters up in the other one and tucked her tail so nothing would get bit. I dont think my dog even seen the other dog because when I set her down she gave me this what the hell was that for look.

I have had the same thing happen to me and my girl. I walk around this beautiful pond where there is a strict leash law but there are still the few idiots that let there dogs loose. A few months ago I was charged by two little white west highland terriers snarling and barking at Bella. Thankfully Bella only weighs 48 lbs so I picked her up and kept walking as the lady apologized......Glad your day didn't turn any worse for you. Sounds like you have a good girl

I have the same thing over here, Max is around 50lbs and very muscular, and isnt that good at recall if there is any distractions so he stays on the lead when in public, but that dosent stop other dogs rushing him when their owners are 100m away ... I'm so glad he hasnt shown any DA tendancies "yet" .. but like you guys, I have hoisted him up in a heartbeat on a couple of occasions to prevent the switch being thrown inside him

It isn't right, how people believe all pitbulls should remain on lock down, while their dogs get to trapeize around and possiby try and start fights. It's like the world has it all backwards thinking APBT are human aggressive (so we should protect people and keep them leashed) and not dog aggressive(so its fine to let other dogs run free and approach who ever and what ever as long as he isn't an APBT)

I get the same reactions when walking my dog, sometimes I will try and educate the person, however some ppl I prefer to rather be a bit scared of my dog.

Though the best reaction if finding someone that knows how loving your dog is, its almost always unexpected and really makes me smile when they great my dog with love

When I was younger with my first 65lb Amstaff and me being a small girl of only 125lbs way back when, I use to carry him across hot parking lots on walks and had snatch him away from dogs more than once lol Its funny how fast you can move when you think there might be a problem with your pet

come to find out that same day my friend was walking her jack russell on a leash down the side walk when she seen a young, but big rotti about 50 yards in front of her all by itself with no owner in sight. Her JR did not react to the rotti, but still she picked up her dog and started walking the other direction. At that moment the rott took off after her and started circling her trying to get to her dog. My friend is about 120 lbs soaking wet and she said she was kicking and screaming at the dog trying to make it leave, but it wouldn't. The rot eventually reached up under her arms and grabbed her dog away from her. She said that she then grabbed her dogs harness and was in a tug of war with the rot. Before this becomes to long an elderly couple heard her screaming and let her in their house to get away from the dog. She was able to save her dog, but he was badly bruised and he had to get staples. The rots owner was found and come to find out the dog has no shots or license. Irresponsible owners drive me nuts. Her dog could have been killed and she could have been seriously hurt.
