Question Bully advice in a new home

So I am about to move in to a house with a huge fenced in backyard that Bentley our American Bully is going to absolutely love. We are going to be renting this house and went to pay the deposit on it today.
We were sitting there and the woman asked us casually what kind of dogs we have. I replied with "Basset Hound and American Bully" She didn't know what that was so I pretty much told her the story of how he is registered as an APBT but that's not what he actually is. (I know its past the date to register him as a Am Bully but that's for another thread)
She told me that if we got any complaints from the neighbors about him we would have to either get rid of him or move out.

I guess what I'm asking for is advice.... We are planning on putting beware of dog signs up. Just in case.... And though about introducing him to the neighbors when we move in just so they know that Bentley is not something they should be afraid of. Is this a good idea? is there other things that we also need to do?

Bentley is not going to do anything that will have anyone complain. I am just scared that the canine racism is going to have neighbors complains regardless of the fact that Bentley doesn't deserve it.

*Note*I think there might also be dogs that live next door but a fence will be containing both mine and their dogs.He is an inside dog and will almost never be outside unsupervised.

it might be good to stick with calling him an AmBully even if the neighbors dont know what that is. not much else u can do. in my experience some people complain about a dog simply because they dont how it looks. also i bought a "beware of dog" sign and now im thinking i might not put it up. at training class i went to they said that a good lawyer could argue that if u posted a "beware of dog" sign that u knew ur dog was dangerous. stupid lawyer crap. the trainer sugested a sign that simply states "dog in yard".

I think you got it covered, I would leash him in the fenced yard and walk him aorund so he knows his boundaries. See if there is any areas he might slip under or something might slip inside your yard as well.

In Massachusetts where I am from if you put a beware of dog sign, you get a lawsuit if someone gets bit because its acknowledging you have a vicious animal. You can have "animal on premises", or dog on premises" kind of like that, but nothing about it being dangerous or beware.

I think its great to go around and introduce yourself. You might being your pup, or maybe not, up to you. If they have dogs you don't want their pups to run outside and rush your boy, scare him into a bad reaction, that's not a nice how do you do moment, lol.

I would also say your almost never outside unattended should be NEVER outside unattended until you are sure your pup knows his surroundings and can not escape.

I think I like the "Dog in Yard" much better. B/c Bentley isn't aggressive and not really something to "beware" of. There is a German Shepard down the road (canine unit to be exact) and they have the "Beware of Dog" so I just figured if a highly trained dog like that needs the sign, more than likely I would too.

I have to agree. I was told by the police that if I placed a beware of dog sign (in Ohio), I'm advertising to everyone my dog is vicious. I was told to cut off the "beware of" and just post dog. Can you lock the fence so no one can open it and forget to close it back up. I would introduce the neighbors dog slowly to yours or keep yours leashed with you when out in the yard. You will not know how well the dogs will get along.

Thanks you two!
I also thought about telling them to just let me know if they have any concerns or questions. But then again I didn't want to freak them out.
I said "almost" for the simple fact that once he gets used to the new place there will be time that I leave the door open for him to lay on the back porch in the sun while I'm in the living room ( living room is connected to back porch) That should be fine right? Right now we have a sorry excuse for a back porch with a privacy fence surrounding it and he lays on it sunbathing all the time.

the fence latches but before we move in we are planning on attaching a key lock with a chain to be on the safe side.

Yeah, I was meaning more putting him in the yard and shutting doors and not being aware of hearing what is going on. I leave my door open for sun bathing as well. Seems my boy find the one spot of sun that streams in no matter where it is or how small, lol.
