Adopted Dog - What Breed Could She Be?

Hi all. Yesterday I adopted what is believed to be a "pit bull" terrier mix (at least that's what she was labeled as) from my local SPCA. She is just 10 months old, and 37lbs. They said she will probably just round out instead of grow higher and top out at or under 50lbs max.

She is friendly, sweet, and fairly gentle, not to mention incredibly intelligent. I taught her leash training, sit, and lie down today. She does need to learn manners around people in terms of getting too excited, an I have a 2 year old nephew who runs a lot, which excites her, and then she growls strains and wants to chase him which is a no-no because its out of question that shed be too roug with him and both need to do some maturing, and I need to work with her. So I know she has a high prey drive with running after things, even me, although she's gentle with me.

Anyways, I have some pictures, and I've just been wondering if anyone could make a guess at what she could be mixed with? I'm particularly curious because I read an article about how many mixes sometimes aren't even close to what they look like.

Could be some pit bull type dog in there, hard to tell. I do like her coloring, my american bully pup has very similar white flashing.

Welcome to GP and congrats on your new family member!

Thanks guys! She was adopted from the PSPCA. She started out at the city's animal control center, listed as "Pit Bull Terrier Mix" just as in a mix if some bully breed (At least I figure because the purebreds are listed as Anerican Pit Bull Terrier). Her previous owner had to surrender her because he had to travel and couldn't take her with him. I'm not sure where she came from before that.

I think in the last picture she looks very Pit in the torso and face, but as some friends of mine noted, her expression can be sighthound-esque at times, and at others very foxhound-esque. She's also basically entirely missing any kind of tuck-up, even though she's at the ideal weight for her age.

There's no way of really knowing if she even has a "pit bull" type mix in her. She could be anything really gotta love shelter mutts! There isn't anything wrong with them either. She is 100% American shelter Dog!

If I had to guess I would say some time of hound mix.

She truly is 100% American Mutt! Not to mention an absolute pleasure during clicker training - so eager to please!

I think it's funny that on another forum I frequent they all think she looks Pitbull/Sighthound but here she's more of a toss-up She does seen kind of houndy though, doesn't she?

I'm not sure how APBTs bark, can't dig a clear audio file of it out of my mind, but she does prolong her barks into howls when she wants attention. I don't know if they can all do that or if its a hound specific trait. From her build shoulders back, I do see a bit of a different breed. Plus her tail drops down then curves up, haven't checked to see if that's specific to certain breeds.

I have American Bullies and 2 of them howl like crazy lol. They full on put their noses to the sky and go after it. Coming from a shelter you will never know what she is but she's cute!

She's very pretty. She looks a lot like a friend of mines dogs who is constantly labeled a "pit bull". The mother was a border collie and they aren't quite sure what the dad, or dads, of the litter night have been.
