More issues for Diamond products?

Just saw this today posted in a group, figured it should be shared here as well.. Id keep an eye out because there might be another recall happening soon..

"Our story.... Oct 17th started as any day would here at the Pen, a few days prior we had made the switch for winter feed from diamond premium to diamond hi-energy, this Thursday was like any other day, I fed the dogs it was about the fourth day on this food that night Tequila I noticed didn't dive right in, hmmmm she is in heat probably some hormones brush it off. The next night I go to feed on Friday there is half gone, so I refill her bowl, look her over she doesn't seem to be out of sorts...Now things get crazy Saturday she had not eaten her food, so we give her some other things she takes a bite or two drinks some water, and still is not really acting to out of sorts, my mistake I believe now is chalking it to her heat cycle. Sunday night comes and Tequila starts have tremors, constant tremors with very little break, so of course I start to freak out, call the vet, you know expecting something easily treated at this point. We arrive there, he starts to chalk it to certain things, but something told me to order that CBC, so I ask him to do this, He does the counts, comes back and says I am gonna rerun this on another machine think something might be off with no charge to you, so he draws more blood, we wait, then he comes in the room and states she is in acute renal failure, and he can't believe she is alert focused, that at the levels she should be in a coma or dead.... her BUN should be around 24 hers was 270 her Creatinine should be 1.4 hers is 14.2 with very low albumin... we both burst into tears this was not what we expected... so we opt to try IV fluid therapy, diuretics, and antibiotics for our girl, sometimes the kidneys will restart function.... so the days are going by and the levels are getting no better, so Wed the vet calls me with more bad news her BUN had decreased, by 10 but her Crea was up by a point, so we decide to put her to rest the next day. I arrive there and Tequila hadn't urinated for almost 24 hours she suddenly stands and urinates a great deal to both the vet and my surprise, she is acting somewhat normal we are again optimistic... so we decide to go back to treatment... Friday comes she eats alittle for us, and drinks some water on her own.. we are feeling much better.........the test we were gonna wait till this morning. As the weekend went she became increasingly worse, wouldn't eat, or drink again, sunday we got the call on hemorrhaging and ulcers, today the test revealed a worse reading and the vet said he didn't feel even ethically we should go on, a decision was made.

While all this is going on I have been researching and researching looking for answers, everything we came to directed to toxins of some sort for the vet and I. I feel and my vet will chuckle at my expertise on this now... as when something happens to a dog here I am anal with my research.....I didn't get a break till sunday afternoon a fellow bulldogger called his dog was having the same symptoms, and we figured out we were feeding the same feed diamond hi-energy.......diamond has been known to poison dogs in the past, humans etc,... this is where things get tricky because I had ruled food out due to so far no other dogs being sick, but if the culprit is salmonella then that makes sense they all wouldn't get sick. As my vet stated young, old and those in stress situation like a heat cycle for Tequila... would be more susceptible, as well in researching they will present with low albumin as Tequila did. I don't care if people feed this food, I know in my heart that this food killed my dog, we have now figured out about 10 incidents just in our beloved bully community of dogs eating this food either dieing or ill.......I will never touch another product made by them nor will I ever purchase there product again.......it is not worth it, I lost a valuable female, a family companion, a very loved dog today for what? ... A heart wrenching process for us here.

I have made the call to diamond, and told them of all this, they aren't much help but I vow now when those tox test come back I will make it a life mission to persuade people to not feed this food, whether there is a recall or not, and I told them today it isn't about money, if my story saves one dogs life Tequila did not die in vain.

We are heartbroken here this is quick version the story in daily time can be seen on my wall, if you wish to read through it ....I promise to Tequila they have met their match with her momma."

crazy! I actually just saw this, a bit easier to know whats recalled to see the pictures on the boxes. I used to feed Mel Happy Hips a few years back, too expensive and started making my own, so glad! I dont like anything from China toys or food. So many other options out there.

Oct 23, 2013: Federal health officials are warning pet owners to be cautious about feeding their dogs jerky treats as they continue to investigate a treat-related illnesses that has left nearly 600 dogs dead and sickened more than 3,000 others. The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday issued an alert to consumers about the illnesses and deaths tied to jerky treats from China. Officials say the exact cause of the illnesses remains unknown. The agency has received reports from pet owners and veterinarians about jerky pet treat-related illnesses affecting 3,600 dogs and 10 cats in the U.S. since 2007. Approximately 580 of those pets have died, according to a news release. The FDA noted a decrease in reports of illnesses earlier this year after a number of pet jerky treats were pulled from the market. Officials say the number of reports may have declined because fewer jerky treats were available to consumers. Symptoms observed within hours of eating the treats include decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased activity, increased water consumption and increased urination, the agency said. Severe cases have involved kidney failure and gastrointestinal bleeding, the FDA said. The agency urges owners of pets showing symptoms to consult a veterinarian and save any remaining treats and treat packaging for possible testing. ((Be careful with ALL dog treats sold IN STORE, right now. Bakery fresh or vet products are going to be the way to go for awhile... this list may not be all inclusive - so to be safe, just skip store bought product for a long time.

I used to also give Happy Hips but stopped as well for the same reasons as Ames. Most treats are not even healthy anyway, just junk! Making your own is so much better and safer!

Just like you have warned and warned with TOTW and 4Health. Good for you.

Otherwise don't know why anyone still gets surprised by this..

Many of those recalled "treats" are manufactured though the same company.

If Diamond would just straighten out their act, it would be a good food to use if you can't afford higher quality food like Orijen. Sometimes a member will come on here asking about options. They may be currently feeding Pedigree but can't afford higher end foods so I will recommend something like Natural Balance, TOTW, etc. which are made by Diamond.... I am wondering KM, what you would recommend to these folks that can't afford the Champion feeds, Wellness CORE, Instinct, etc....but yet they want to upgrade from Pedigree?
What foods would you suggest?

If your talking about a year round solution, I don't see a point in paying for something subpar to what an animal needs.. be that dog, cat, horse, etc.

A little effort and some calls you can feed raw for cheaper than one of these kibble feeds and roughly the same price as something cheaper as far as kibble goes.

So I would suggest raw.
