UTI and new diet

My pit/lab Trippy is on antibiotics for a urinary infection. I am considering taking him off Natural Choice and going with a better quality food such as Innova Evo red meat, however I am concerned about changing his diet while treating a possibly diet related condition. Should I wait or just go ahead and start switching to the new food now?

First off why do you think the UTI is diet related?

If you want to switch than go ahead and do that but if I were you I would add cranberry to your dogs diet.

After I had my son I got a UTI the drs. cleared it up with meds but then about a month later it was back again. Again I was put on meds. This went on for 6-7 months. I hate taking pills and I'm a healthy person so I did some research ( asked the old people in my town) and found out that cranberry would clear it up. I make sure I have cranberry at least twice a week I have never had another UTI. It has been 16yrs.

The vet said the ph levels in his urine were pretty high, which created a better environment for bacteria to thrive thus causing the UTI. He said this could be due to Trippy not metabolizing certain foods properly and recommended we not give him anything but his food and water. No treats, no bones, nada. Does this make sense?

I just googled UTI in dogs and it didn't say anything about not metabolising the food right it did say to not let food sit around and to dump any food that the dog didn't eat as it is a bacterail infection I suppose the dogs salivia on the food could be a breeding ground for bacteria. That does make sence. It also said that you can use applecider vinager I know SadieBlue uses that on her dogs and you could give your dog orange juice or another acidic juice and that would help clear up UTI. Good luck and keep us posted.

The antibiotics seem to be working, no frequent urgent urinating so I think he will be fine. Maybe I am just overthinking it and the vet is trying to get one over on me....who knows. I am going to switch his diet. He's on antibiotics so even if it's origin is food related, the drugs should kill any bacteria that might develop. Thanks for the help!
