Problem with hives anyone?

Hey it's been a while since my last post. I have a few concerns. About a month ago I took Luna to the vet and the doc said she had hives and he prescribed her Benadryl and another medicine. For the past week I feel the hives again on her body. I can't keep shelling money for a temporary fix. Anyone know what it could be? I switched her food to Orijen 6 fish due to the omega fish oils but it's not making it better. So I know it's not a food allergy. I don't see mites on her and she def doesn't have fleas.

My pup had gives before when I moved into an apartment building and I took him to the vet, they prescribed the same thing and the hives went down but then they started back up again and that's when I realized my poor baby had fleas and was allergic to them! Everytime he has fleas or just a couple he breaks out in hives or just a few bumps all over his body. Make sure your pup is free of those bugs by keeping you dog clean and see if that helps. In the bath water after you scrub and wait 5 minutes and rinse see if there are any in the water to rule them out for being the reason for hives.

How long has your pup been on the Orijen food?

I give her a nexgard chewable for fleas n ticks so is it probable that she may have fleas? I've never seen a flea on her or mites and I'm always checking her fur for ticks, plus I bathe her frequently with a gentle shampoo and conditioner. I don't think it's pests but that's why I'm asking here bc I'm at wits end trying to rectify this problem

I would suggest another food change. Pick a fish formula in a different brand and see how that goes. It's possible one of the ingredients in Orijen is something she's allergic to. Pick up some Duoxo shampoo, spray, and wipes. Bathe her every couple/few weeks and spray and wipe her daily.
If the food change shows no signs of improvement, then it is most likely contact/environmental. (food is the easiest thing to change and verify, that's why I suggest that first)
Ecko has both. He gets a zyrtech 24 hr every morning for his environmental allergies. He gets sprayed and wiped down once or twice a day, and I have his food allergies in check.

Ok well what food should I look into now. I know every dog is different but I was u see the assumption Orijen was king. What's a reputable brand? Acana is up there but it's basically lower protein Orijen.

My pup started breaking out in hives after being outside in the sun. Here to find out the vet said she has canine solar dermatitis (allergy to uv sun light ) so she has to wear sunblock an shirts. An I feed her taste of the wild wild salmon formula and haven't had issues with that. But I know that her being white I've been told she'll have a lot more allergy issues

I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner. Acana has a fish based formula. High protein isn't always the best. If you're working the dog on a regular basis, then yeah, a bit more protein is good. If not, then a little lower won't hurt.

I've been using bovine colostrum for a week now with Ecko, and he's been showing signs of improvement. He has food and contact/environmental allergies. I feed him raw. He did OK on Acana but was still getting ear infections. That's why I went with raw. The bovine colostrum is an immune booster as well as a probiotic. So it's an all around good thing.

I actually picked up capsules for myself. I just haven't been able to get passed the smell. Ecko loves them though. No surprise there. LOL!

I can see how a white dog would develop sun allergies much easier then a dog of color. I'm pretty sure it's the same in the human world.

there are supplements that can be used to help boost the immune system and help the dog battle the symptoms of allergies. I've never dealt with UV allergies though.
How is the sunblock and clothes working out? I've determined that my dog is a size 6T and human clothes are far cheaper then dog clothes. Maybe save a few bucks there if you aren't already. Also, living in FL I can tell you that rash guards protect against the sun but breath easier and dry faster. May be a little cooler for hot days when you take your pup out.

my rednose amber eyed ginger colored pit gets hives. bendryll helps, but not that great. the vet put her on antibiotic and presidone. the medications didn't help much but bathing helps her, she improved with antimicrobial antifungal treatment to her spots. Also, she also has irritable bowel syndrome, which might be giardia. and maybe the allergies are caused by giardia. so this time we are treating the allergies. The vet has her on
cerenia-because she barfed up her food and that is what got me going to the vet. but it was only once. and so I am not doing the full medications for that.

pro-pectalin-until her stools become normal

metronidazole-an antibiotic that may kill giardia
panacur-that may kill giardia

and a very bland diet, avoiding most proteins, (treats etc) and just have her on natural balance dog food. and bath her at least twice a week in something to make sure there is no pollen or allergins in her fur. (she is on fluralaner for flea tick prevention) fingers crossed that the giardia treatment works and her irritable bowel and allergies clear up
