Can anyone help? Puppy has diarrhea.

My 17 week old pitbull has been having diarrhea for a couple days now. I'm not sure what could be causing it. He usually poops during the day but lately he doesn't poop at all during the day instead he will wake up 3 to 4 times in the middle of the night crying because he has to go. Every time its either green mushy diarrhea or just liquid diarrhea. He seems fine... He plays all day, we go on regular walks, and he is eating fine. I don't know what to do. Can anyone help? Has this happen to your dog before?

Add some canned pumpkin to his food. Don't get the pumpkin pie filling, just the canned pumpkin. Add a couple of tablespoon's and see if that helps. Make sure he is getting plenty to drink to avoid dehydration. Diarrhea can be caused from something he ate or it could be signs of something serious. Don't let it continue for too long before getting him in to see a vet. Please let us know how things go.

If the canned pumpkin doesn't work, try giving no food at all for 24 hours (but plenty of water) - after that give boiled, skinless chicken and plain white rice mixed together for a few days. That has always worked for my pups if the pumpkin didn't work when they got into something or got a case of poops. Just make sure your pup is drinking plenty to avoid dehydration.

Ok I'll keep that in mind....I gave him some pepto bismol along with the pumpkin. And it seems to be working for now. I hope its nothing too serious. If it comes back im gonna take him to the vet.

You have to be careful giving OTC meds like that. Most of them contain anti-inflammatories, and those can cause serious liver damage in pets. Imodium is a better choice, but should be discussed with your vet.
Canned pumpkin helps pretty fast and is all natural. Another option is to strip a couple of raw rib bones bare and feed them. Bone is a natural stool hardener.

I've also used Immodium with my pups but only under the direction and care of my vet; however, I did not know that about bone. Thanks for the tip and info EckoMac, that's good to know!

My Thor had the same lol. Instead the diarrhea was due to a virus..forget what it was called. Fixed the diarrhea for a few weeks, then turned into very soft stools. I recently found out that his kibble was also was the cause. I tried pumpkin with blue wilderness which worked here and there but still not consistent solid stools. I finally switched to fromm which was recommended by my lps.

Love the name, I had a "Thor" as well whom I lost about a year and a half ago. He was my best companion and faithful friend, he will be forever missed.
