Skin Issues - Please Help!!!

Digger is a blue

He’s 5 years old

For the past 3 years we’ve been struggling with his skin.

Allergy tests came back negative.

Vets only wanna guess with antibiotics & steroid shots. Im exhausted with dealing with the “doctors”. Antibiotics only cleared things up for 2 weeks then it comes back.

We’ve tried EVERY type of raw food and seen no long term changes. He currently eats Primal raw patties.

We’ve lived in 3 completely different states. Same issue persists.

- itchy ears / heavy wax buildup / smells like yeast
- itchy paws
- raw arm pits
- blisters on belly & chest that scab over
- blister bumps on hind legs thar scab over & result in hair loss

Any of you seen this before? What worked? Any guesses to the cause?

Thx.

Welcome to the world of blue dogs. I've spent several years finding what works best for mine.
I follow the prey model raw plan for food. I find most premade raw has additives like herbs and veg. Too many to rule out which is causing the issue. I use Duoxo shampoo and sprays for topical issues, Zymox for ear issues, and coconut oil as a topical for bad break outs. Local bee pollen daily will help build up the immune system to fight against environmental allergens like pollen and grass. He also gets a 24 hour zyrtec or clariten a day.
Every dog is different, but there are so many options to help these days without using too many medications. It's all trial and error. Just make sure you give everything time to work. Food changes take about 30 days since the old food has to cycle out of the body.

Have you done blood work testing ? Or Skin allergy testing ? I had both done on my dog , now I have her on allergy drops, straight salmon diet including treats, I give her 3 teaspoons of coconut oil with her breakfast & give her missing link skin & coat powder & skin & coat vitamin chews . Ive been dealing with her skin issues for 2 yrs . I also give her apoquel during a bad break out only side effect is sleepiness .

You may want to ask your vet, but I give my dog local raw honey and probiotics every day. In humans, this is supposed to help allergy symptoms.

Local drug store. 1 bottle of isopropyl alcohol, 1 small bottle of boric acid and 1 bottle of genetian violet.

From the 12oz bottle pour out about an ounce. Add two table spoons of boric acid. Add about 12-14 drops of genetian violet. Shae well before use.

Wear gloves as it will stain purple til dry.

I poke a hole in the top of the bottle to make a squirt bottle.

Twice oer day in the ears for 7 days and then it can be used as a weekly or monthly cleaner.

I also use it between the toes and the skin.

The alcohol works as a carrier into the ear. It quickly evaporates and removes some excess moisture. The boric acid will lower the pH. (Yeast and fungal infections seldom get diagnosed, mostly as bacterial, that is why so many trips to the vet for multiple rounds of antibiotics. The genetian violet serves as a topical.

I have seen it work on dogs and horses with foot rot (wet/muddy living conditions for long periods of time). Works great for ears, clears up infections and then works great as a maintenance cleaner.

Nice first post slim12. How about starting a new thread in the Introduction section of the forum and tell us a little about you and/or your dog(s). Welcome to the forum!

Cool Just adding some results

I just wanted to add some pictures of what he looks like now it took over 6 months of being diligent and staying on top of it but he is back to what he was over 3 years ago. The picture of his belly was after one week of starting this treatment which gave me great hope to keep going.

The other pictures are just his current Glamour Shots.

EDIT:

I made a post prior to this one and the system said it would be posted after a moderator approved it I don't know why this one went through this one is only showing pictures of the results. Hopefully a moderator can place the other post prior to this one if not delete this and I'll re-upload it.
