Need help on deciding on food - live in a VERY small town
Ok so for a little over a week i have been giving Dobb's cooked whit rice and hamburger meat. About 1 1/2 cups x2 a day. Also giving him metronidazole to help curb his diarreha issue. All is well now!! thanks to Pk9!!
I need help deciding on a dry food for Dobb's now that he is better. Also i need an idea on how much to mix with the cooked food and for how long so i dont give him the diarreha issue all over again.
I know starting another thread is repetative but people opinions on food sometimes change after trial and error. Also i live in a very small town and my options are limited.
My options for places to shop are Walmart(its not your normal walmart, the sell horse food and limited dog food??!! lol), There is a Kmart here but i looked and they dont have anything. There is a feed store about 12 miles from here. The only other option is Palmdale which is over an hours drive about 70 miles.
So you can see my delema. I would keep feeding him the cooked food but i feel like its not enough and he is missing out on protein and other essentials he needs.
I guess i could order online but that could get pricey with weight and shipping.
So i am all ears to suggestions and advice. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance!
-Josh

If you don't want to keep her on a natural/raw diet and you do want to move to kibble, my suggestion is TOTW (as everyone likes) or Diamond...I've seen others on this and they like it.
Mine is on Natural Choice right now because they make a good Puppy chow but I'll be switching her to Diamond most likely.

I will take a picture of what i was feeding him after work and post the label/ingrediants so you guys can tell me what you think. I think the food he hwas eating before may have helped cause the diarreha to begin with.

Can you tell me what stores may offer this? Is it high in grains or other stuff that might be allergic?

Mostly Feed Stores to be honest with you. You won't find them in Wally World or Kmart but you must live in a "rural" area since your wal mart has a feed store inside of it.
Dog Food Reviews - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost (compare them) TOTW is grain free I know that.
Diamond has a small protein content but I think it's decent for the price.

I live in Ridgecrest, CA. The closest petco or petsmart i know of is in Palmdale/Lancaster. What do you mean by raw food diets? Like raw meat?
This is what i was giving him when he had diarreha. I think something in the food had allot to do with it.

ok really weird these places that came up in my search ...
yes weird a hardware store but I called them and the nice woman who answered said they carry TOTW, EvO which is also grain free and otheres that might suit what your looking for ... I hope she was right and I hope this helps and that it is in your area since I'm don't know a thing about CA ...
ACE Hardware
6259 HWY 178
Inyokern, CA 93527
(760) 377-4571
no longer carries dog food
Country Feed Barn
1345 3rd St
Inyokern, CA 93527
(760) 377-4532
phone disconnected ...
Pet Integrity Specialty Pet Supplies
125 N China Lake Blvd
Ridgecrest, CA 93555

My husband works at petco in new york and its fairly limited when it comes to natural grain free foods ... and since your having trouble with your dogs diet and limited with where to get your food from if you cant get totw or another good food perhaps getting a recipe from IBC ... Indigo Bully Connection ... or search the health and nutrition threads for ideas ... if I'm not mistaken it might be cheaper and you can make it urself know whats going into your dogs food and prepackage in bulk with baggies ...JMO ... good luck hope all goes well
