feeding

i set out around 3 1/2 to 4 cups a day for my 11 month old female...the problem i am facing with her is that she only eats around 2 cups or so depending on the day...my other pup goes over and cleans up what she doesnt eat if it sits there too long...she never seems hungry...i set out the food for her in the morning and she doesnt really rush to get it she just calmly takes her time...sometimes just walks away...she is around 19 inches tall and her chest is around 9 inches or so...she weighs at just under 50 pounds and is VERY active...i just want her to eat more cause she looks so skinny to me...what should i do?

i leave the bowls down....but they will finish them...my little female will...i know i can seperate them while feeding...and pick up my older dogs bowl when she isnt eating but she just has no interest in food...my dogs get along well together no food aggression or anything...probably cause my older female could care less about food...

Imo, I Think All Dog's Are Differrent. Just Cause One Eat All The Time, And The Other Don't. So Be It! I Have One That I Feed At The Same Time As All The Other's, And They All Get Two Cup's, But She Will Always Eat Her's Last And There's Always Food Left Over The Next Day. So, As Long As She Is Still Eating And Drinking Plenty Of Water. I Would Just Let Her Be.
Oh And As Long As Her Stool Is Fine, And She Is'nt Getting Sick. I Dont See Any Concern. Although She May Need To Be Tested For Worms. Some Worms Are Hard To Detect And You May Need To Take A Sample In For The Vet To Exam, Just To Be Sure That Is Not Your Problem.

I've always left my dog's food and water bowl out. He eats/drinks when he's hungry/thirsty, which isn't often during the day. He really doesnt eat much until night time. When I eat dinner, he goes and eats his dinner.

We dont have house dogs but even we did I never left the food down. I would feed at the same time every day and when we had multiple dogs they were fed seperate or in their respective kennels. After 20 minutes the bowls were taken up. They werent fed again until the next day same time.

The dogs we have now, Gracie is getting 6 cups while she is pregnant and she eats that in about 5 minutes so 20 minutes is plenty of time.

that is what I do... I I have set amount of food each dog gets a day. I break it down into two meals. its dry food too. But on wednesdays I also give one egg mixed with dry food in the evening. and on Saturday I give a meat and gravy packet (iams) mixed in with the dry food also in the evening. my dogs love it and do very well off that diet.
