How do you train a Child?

Our son has been showing a lot of aggression to our pup lately. I know Christmas Holidays are hard, and the craziness comes out. But anyways here's our problem.

Of course like responsible owners "We NEVER leave our son alone with Akasha", however lately during play we have noticed the following. If Akasha gets to excited and accidently steps on our son's toes he will hit our dog. Or for example today I guess he went outside and step in her poop. Next thing I know he yells at her, and comes up to her and takes his hand and hits her. I nearly flipped a brick, I was so angry with him and told him to go to his room. Like 5 minutes later, Dad and I told again for the 3rd time "Never ever hit that dog, for any reason !!!".

I ended up taking his privillages away from our son for 3 days. He is not aloud to touch, feed, or even play with the dog. It worries me that he would abuse a dog, because honestly they don't understand. We explained to our son what happens if our doggy gets abused, so he understands that the dog could snap and attack him. I'm just at my wits end, our son has been going through a hitting and aggressive stage. My biggest concern is how do we get him to stop taking his aggression out on Akasha? How did you all do this?

well I'd just grab his hands up, and proceed to make him pop hiself in the face not hard just in an irratting manner and say "quit hitting yourself" "quit hitting yourself" it worked for me, and has worked for my boys... But growing up with me is like being raised in a K9 training acadamy... LOL

He is 6 years old, and he always says "I forgot I'm not suppose to hit the dog", but he remembers why he can't pet the dog.

I told him that I would start treating him like he treats the dog. But I don't want to hit him, because we are trying to get him not to hit.
