Question about dogs mating

My female(Sasha - 6.5 months) was playing with another pup yesterday(9 months) and he tried to get on her a couple of times, obviously both owners were watching so we told him to stop.

Will male dogs try to hump regardless of whether they are in heat? I'm trying yo gauge if she is going in heat soon.

A related question is will the dog still try hump her even after I spay Sasha? and will it be bad if somehow he gets my pup?

I'm planning to do it before the next 2 months... My vet told me 7-8 months would be good.

Yes male dogs and even female dogs may hump dogs, of the same sex, not in heat even spayed and neutered. It is a dominance thing so be careful because humping can lead to fights.

Thanks Gamer,

By humping I was actually referring to sexual intercourse, will a male try and have sex with a female without being in heat?

Most likely it's yes, sounds like a stupid question but I don't find anything on Google, probably not phrasing it well.

Yea a lot of the time during play one will mount the other one to show dominance. Our old American Bulldogs used to do this only it was the female mounting the male. LOL She was always the boss. I don't think she's going into heat or the male would be on her non stop trying to get a piece. I would get her fixed quick before you have a renegade male trying to get at her. Is she inside or outside most of the time?

She's old enough I say go for it wouldn't hurt. Then you'll never have to worry about all the dirty males trying to get your little girl. We had some scrounge nasty dog trying to get in our yard after Mary Jane once, soo glad he couldn't get in or we'd have some funky looking pups. lol

He may notice the hormonal change before you ever see her symptoms of heat. it is wise to keep her away from any males until she gets spayed.

If a male dog isnot altered he may mount and try with same sex or Op sex. His hormones will cause this also there are dogs who will mount and thrust another dog in alphaship.

This is hilarious... but all the male Boston Terriers Helena has ever met have humped her. hahaha She just got this humiliated look on her face as she tried to spin around and get away. They were very aggressive in their ventures. hahaha And she is fixed!

Dogs just hump to show play, dominance and to make babies.

not only will a male dog mount another fixed or no-fixed, they will mount other things such as people, toys or anything they claim as theirs. it is a dominance factor as well as a hormanal factor. try spraying him\her with a spray bottle filled with water to correct him. if they dont stop then i would do whatever it takes to keep them seperated.
