Bug Bite?

Coop got bit by a Deer Fly, (not a tick).
His eye is swollen. What is a good remedy?
He doesn't seem to be bothered, just us
He looks like he got punched in the eyelid.

Are you sure it was a deer fly? I can't imagine that a deer fly bite would swell much. I'm going on my past experiences being bitten by the little buggers myself.

Deer Flies and Horse Flies can create a swollen area b/c the animal or human is having an allergic reaction to the bite.

Get yourself some Adult Benadryl tablets
If the dog is
- under 25 lbs give a 1/2 tablet
- under 50 lbs give a tablet
- under 75 give 1.5 tablets
- under 100 give 2 tablets.

Wanna give it twice daily for about 3 to 5 days.

Other then that you just need to allow it to fun its course.

The swelling went down quickly, without any meds.

geisthexe; Thanks for the heads-up on the Benadryl.

I'll add that to our medicine cabinet for Cooper.

Well, it looks like a bad year for deer flies in upstate NY.
Coop came in with some bites on his ears
I'll use Benadryl as suggested. Now another question.
What can we use as a bug repellent?
We spend a LOT of time outside, walking, training, and just playing!
