Eating issues?

I have switched foods several times and I can't get him to eat his food. On an average, he loses interest in a food around after 3 months. Right now i have him on diamond extreme athlete, and after three months -lol- he does not seem interested. Any suggestions? I tried mixing wet food to it with only success for two days. I'm ready to put some cooked ground meat in it. I'm trying to keep his weight up and obviously I want him to eat but at the same time his finicky eating habits are getting quite tiresome . Thank you for any responses. This is the first dog I've had any issues like this.

First off STOP whiching foods.
Second if you are just putting food down all day then you are creating a picky eater.
Third put his food down for 10 minutes if he eats GREAT if he doesnt then pick it up and give it later in the evening. (DOG WILL NOT DIE) what you are doing is making him hungry. So then he will eat what is in front of him.
Forth Stop putting stuff one it .. again you are creating your own problems.

Force this dog to eat by starving him for a few days. if you are worried go get some NutraCal and give him a finger length every morning so he still gets his electrolytes .. Make Sence?

So when you say the dog looses interest in the food does he just stop eating and goes days with out food? Or is it that you think he needs more than he is eating. All of my dogs will go a day or two without eatting they are just not hungery they have never starved themselves to the point that they quit eating altogether. Find a good food that you can afford all the time and will be available when you need it and just stick with it.

Easiest way to explain, he will go from eating everyday and finishing his food in just under five mins to just sitting there not touching it, yet be concerned with what I am cooking. There's a pet store less than two miles that sells Diamond extreme athlete . Let's see if he wants it today

first you have to make sure it is not a medical problem. If he is interested in food if you dress it up then you have created a picky eater. Like deb said above offer his food and if he does not eat it pick it up after 10 mins, I have had dogs (adult dogs) go 7 days without eating before they learned they need to eat what I offer when I offer it. Dogs are not dumb they will eat when they get hungry enough.
Most dogs will go just a day or so so don't feel bad if he gets no food for a few days.
also are you giving a lot of treats? That could also decrease his appetite if he is getting too many treats or raw hides. Also you may be feeding too much food how much do you feed him?

he eats about 2 1/2 cups to 3 at the most. But usually it's 2 1/2
he was getting chubby over the winter so I cut back on some
food and itake him and my gsd on mile runs at least 4 times a week In Addition to walking them. They do get rawhides often I must say. I figured it's him picky since he wants table food. I had this issue with him once before and have since eliminated table scraps. But I will try leaving out for ten mins to see how he does. I also picked up nutracal also

I take it that is 2 1/2 cups a day not at each feeding. If it is at each feeding you are most likely over feeding. If that is in a day he is just picky and let him get hungry and he will start eating. If he was my dog and over 8 months old I would not feed him for at least 24 hours if not 48 hours then start offering food twice a day. They need to be hungry to eat on a schedule. Make sure if you put the food up after they won't eat you are offering that same meal later in the day, do not add more food to the bowl because they skipped a meal offer the same amount.
