Coat and skin on my new little girl

Just wondering about a few things. I adopted a pup yesterday. She looks to be a few months old. She is blue and white. I have heard that the blue ones are a little more prone to skin and coat issues. I noticed that her coat isn't shiny and it seems that she has dandruff. She doesn't scratch but I can see the flakes in her fur. Is there anything I can give her for this or is it normal for them?

Try adding a teaspoon of Olive Oil to her food when you feed. I also give Vitamin E and fish oil every day.

A lot of that is due to the conditions she was living in and her coat should come back to proper form with some good food and TLC. You can give 1 fish oil pill once a day in her food, just plain fish oil for people is fine. Get her on a good food and if you want to given extra supplements you can give NuVet. I recommend it for skin, coat, and over all health.
https://www.nuvetlabs.com/order_new/index.asp

When people refer to coat problems with blue it more has to do with bad breeding vs the color of dog. Many blue dogs are so over bred with little consideration to health that the color has some allergies and coat issues. The best thing is just to follow the advice above and try NuVet if you feel you want to add an extra supplement.

yeah you can use regular oatmean.. just like try to crush it up some so its easier to dissolve.. then fill the tub up with luke warm water till about her chest and add the oatmeal to it... put the dog in it and try to scoop the oatmeal up and rub it in on her.. dont rinse her off just leave it on her... it wont leave a residue.. then just pat her dry with a towel

You can buy a oatmeal shampoo from petsmart or Petco or whatever other pet stores you have around you. What kind of food do you plan on feeding her? I would get a high quality food like innova, blue buffalo, taste of the wild, natures variety etc. You may want to check out the pet food rating thread

Science diet isn't a good food. The vets play it up like it is but they know very little about nutrition. Some vets not all. I had my girl on to taste of the wild. Its cheaper than most of the grain free foods but it wasn't working for my girl. I just switched her back to the blue buffalo grain free chicken. She was on it before I changed to TOTW but her stool and coat weren't as good as when she was on blue. I really like blue buffalo.....its a little pricey but worth it

Tropiclean makes an Oatmeal and Teatree shampoo Oatmeal & Tea Tree - Medicated Shampoo that works great on Ecko and is safe for use with topical flea treatments and I also give Fish oil several times per week. I feed **** van Patten LID Venison and Sweet Potato as well. It's pricey but rates high on the food scale. Poor blue girl. Good on you for rescuing her and doing the best you can for her.
