I'm a novice when it comes to "good" dog food, but learned some things from this site. I feed my puppy Canidae, because it was referred to, on many occasions, as the best "bang for your buck". The main thing that I've learned so far, is that corn is not a good ingredient for dogs, and Canidae does not put corn in their product. Also the term "By-product" is said to be a 'no-no'. Based on the ingredients I read from "Dad's" puppy food (http://www.dadspetcare.com/) I wouldn't use it.

Here's a comparison of the ingredients for you:

Dad's Dog Food
INGREDIENTS
Ground Yellow Corn, Poultry By-Product Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Brewers Rice, Soybean Meal, Animal Fat (Preserved with BHA), Dried Beet Pulp, Natural Flavor, Dicalcium Phosphate, Salt, Dried Egg Product, Calcium Carbonate, Iron Oxide, Vitamin E Supplement, Potassium Chloride, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Choline Chloride, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (Source of Vitamin C), Niacin Supplement, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Sodium Selenite, Vitamin A Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Menadione Dimethylpyrimidinol Bisulfate (Source of Vitamin K Activity), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Potassium Iodide, Cobalt Sulfate, Folic Acid.

Canidae "All Life Stages":
All Natural Ingredients
Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, Brown Rice, White Rice, Lamb Meal, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Herring Meal, Flax Seed, Sun Cured Alfalfa Meal, Sunflower Oil, Chicken, Lecithin, Monocalcium Phosphate, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Linoleic Acid, Rosemary Extract, Sage Extract, Dried Enterococcus Faecium, Dried Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus Oryzae Fermentation Extract, Dried Bacillus Subtilis Fermentation Extract, Inulin (from Chicory root), Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Fermentation Solubles, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Mixed Tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Cobalt Amino Acid Chelate, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Ascorbic Acid (source of Vitamin C), Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (source of B2), Beta Carotene, Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Calcium Iodate, Folic Acid, D-Biotin, Sodium Selenite, Papaya, Vitamin B12 Supplement.

You're welcome, and I too never heard of it, until I came on here. Here's the link to their website http://www.canidae.com/index.html, and I noticed they have many locations in New York. Just click the 'Store Locator' and they'll provide you with a list. Earlier I was reading their testimonials section, and I have to say I was impressed with what people had to say about their product.

I wouldn't use it either. There are many foods that are much better. There are some great threads on kibbles on the forum if you do a quick search
