Doggy diet?

I have a 15 month old who is 79 lbs. The vet told me that she is obese and needs to lose 20 lbs? She's a tall girl but very stocky. HOw do I put her on a diet or should I just increase her exercise?

i've tried to limit her food but she cries and starts licking the floor when I do this.

She's on a grain free diet and is given BB Freedom with a wet/dry mix.

How much are you feeding her? She should probably be getting only 2-3 cups a day, not per feeding. Per day. I would cut back if you are feeding more than 2-3 cups a day and increase exercise. Did the vet check her thyroid?

Yeah what Bullygal said. I would also drop the wet food. How much exercise does she get?

My boy is 56lbs and gets one cup a day total to maintain his weight. Depends on what you're feeding. You can add green beams as filler for the belly instead of calories

What are you feeding him? Diego has to eat at least 3 cups a a day of his kibble or he starts to lose weight. I'd love to only feed a cup a day, the boy goes through food like crazy!

I feed her Blue Buffalo Freedom, which is the grain free line. I either mix it with tuna and veggies or chicken breast and veggies. I give her about 1.5cup and half can per feeding. I also mix water into her food.

I am not sure if the vet checked her thyroid.

She's a lazy girl. I walk her for about 45-60 minutes but she comes in the house and collapses after that.

I'd definitely add some other exercises in there. Build a Spring or Flirt Pole. Increase that walk some, play fetch. If it were me I'd decrease about 1/4 cup and see if that makes a difference as well. The feeding guidelines are just that, guidelines. Something to make adjustments from. If after both food decrease and exercise increase she still isn't losing weight, I'd take her in to have her Thyroid checked.

Acana Regional Pacifica. I was feeding 4 cups on Blue Buffalo Wilderness but when I switched to Acana I only need a cup. Its $20 more expensive per bag but lasts 3-4 times longer!
