I lived in the Nam,Fayette-Nam to be 'zact.
we had gotten this helascious snowstorm, around 86-87,not sure.it covered everything.folks in the country,my buds out cedar creek way had to dig their veyichles out.us'n's in town,we just plowed the 'lil bank around them down.
the sun had come out for just A might spell, enough to melt A tad bit'o the stuff.then that night we had A hard freeze.
well folks, that made for somea the best of times.I lived on Finnegan, just off of bragg rd. and went walkin around, got to Bragg rd. and that baby was pure solid ice.I stepped onto it,with a mighty push, slid for about 20' my foot got faster than my body and whoosh,I was down.that weren't it thoughI'm in the middle of this street,it's got the slightest fall to it,yet with the initial push, boy was I movin.
now, I had no reason to panic.their weren't ary A car on any street.so,I slid probably about 100 yds. before I got to the curb, but when I hit that swale I rebounded back into the street, and slid for another 20 yds.finally A worked my way to the grassy area of the church just above cape fear ave and tromped mysef back to the house.
I had A plan.went inside rolled one, went out to the wifes mustang,an 86,lil 4 banger.warmed it up and eased her on out to bragg rd. and pilot ave.
when I got there,I zipped it on out to the center of the street, and just like my butt, she slid,I pulled the emergency brake, cut the wheels sharp, and she went, that car slid,it was like that amusement ride, the tea-cup,just at about A grand total of 6 MPH.
I made the first all alone, and boy, what A weird ride, that car slipped and slid, backwards, sideways, all over.when it got to the little swale it would naturally re-direct the car back out into the street.
I went home and called my buddy donald.he was onea them laid back types.we took back out to that street, and we did her,we did her over and over.I'd say we did it to her 10 times.
why,it wasn't long before we noticed folks out standing by the side of the road watching us.we'd go down, then ease her back up to the top of the incline and do it again.I'd say we did this for A few hrs.each trip down takin about 6-7 min. and the return to the top about another 6-7.
it appears it was A good idea, 2 things about it were A good idea,to think it up,have fun, then get off of that dang street.
ya reckon folks got this disease? monkey see monkey do?
about an hour later we heard a crunch, then immidiately 2 other crunches,we slid our way back to the church lot for Haymount methodist, and looked down the way. their were 4 cars piled up into each other and a big ruckus of drivers hollerin at each other.
a great idea turned sour,I guess by impatience.
